They can’t reproduce sexually. To make another mermaid, they need to drown a traumatised person.
Growth Rate & Stages
Many would assume that because people die ti become mermaids, that they don’t grow at all, but it’s a misconception. They’re ageless, so they grow slowly no matter what age or species the mermaid originally was.
Ecology and Habitats
Different types of mermaids can handle different types of environments with ease, but they can still adapt to climates they’re not used to. They can even survive out of water, developing a humanoid body to do so, though they thrive best in the water.
Behaviour
Many mermaids exhibit signs of major trauma because of their past life. Even so, they tend to be very calm and levelheaded even when riddled with anxiety.

Social Structure
Each mermaid serves a specific purpose during their new life. As they’re reborn, they’re imbued with this automatic understanding by Lady Alqoa, though they do have some leeway in pursuing it or not depending on the circumstances. They don’t follow any hierarchies or castes, and view Lady Alqoa as a voice of guidance rather than a goddess that should be worshipped every waking hour of the day. Because of this; most mermaids have a very casual and friendly relationship with Alqoa.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Those that can manage to hunt mermaids often use them for a rare delicacy. Liches tend to use them to consume their souls, though only the boldest of dumb liches would think to do so, as Alqoa isn’t afraid to smite liches on sight.
Average Intelligence
They have a similar intelligence level to moon elves, possessing knowledge of many hidden secrets that an average land walker wouldn’t know. They use this to their advantage to pursue their goal of justice.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
With their finned ears, they can detect many differences in the air and water. Vibration patterns, predicting weather shifts, etc…
Being descended from angels and elves, they posses a lot of magical power. Most of it is water based, though they can do many other things with the right training.
They also have heightened sight perception, being able to see in complete darkness.

They tend to keep their original names from their past life. But some choose to take on a new name as a celebration of their ascension, and will often use aquatic based names for themselves.

History
Alqoa’s earliest angels were sirens. Despite her best efforts, they were easily corruptible and much more violent. Sometimes it could be directed to doing something productive, but it wasn’t always the case.
She figured it may help if they had mortal souls to help them understand the importance of life and justice. With the sirens she was able to guide to a better life, she sent them to various different worlds in the galaxy to hopefully help them further understand their duties. On Mirthae, a few of them ended up having kids with satyr and Lynç elves. She was surprised to see that the offspring were much more benevolent, even if they still drowned others. Upon seeing how much better the angel/elf mermaids were, she wiped out as many of the sirens she could that actively refused to change.
Although most reformed sirens thought this to be a necessary evil, some of them were horrified, feeling that Lady Alqoa had betrayed them. They helped many unreformed sirens escape into hiding, where they’re currently working to grow their numbers and wipe out the regular mermaids in revenge.
As for the regular mermaids, they’ve been keeping busy by aiding the ivierae and satyr when they can. Aside for lending them aid, they also helped developed routes with the dragons, build basic settlements with Lord Jusniet.
Nowadays they’ve been becoming more involved with society as a whole, with some mermaid spending most of their life on land. They’ve also formed allied coalitions to continue their goals of creating a more just society. It’s been really helpful with the spread of undeadly green, organising with others to bring much needed medicine.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
There’s a million different ways to describe the different features they possess between mermaid and humanoid forms.
But, for the most part it’s easy to describe their mermaid form as having the tail of a fish, with the torso and head of an elf but with finned ears. In their humanoid forms they kinda just look like elves, sometimes with flesh coloured skin or the same skin colour from their mermaid form.
