The Butterfly Spell

Effect

The spell causes the target to die immediately and without pain.

Side/Secondary Effects

A tattoo permanently appears on the victim’s face, visible even on the bone. It appears as a purple, false swallowtail butterfly. Though when botched, the tattoo can often appear slowly on the face, looking as if it was trying to form a butterfly shape.   A multiple of things can happen if the spell is botched, though in most cases death is still the end result. Common effects from botched spells include slow painful deaths, the soul of the victim being killed while the body is still alive, and even reanimation of the dead victims, or zombification of living targets.   In the rare occasion that someone survives the spell, the victim may lose a part of themself permanently in what only can be described as a lobotomy.

Manifestation

When casted, a ball of light emits from whatever the spell caster uses to manifest it, which then forms into the purple butterfly and fly towards the victim’s head. The intended victim may feel a strong sense of dread the closer it approaches, and will not stop until it attaches itself to the target’s face (or until the target is able to escape a certain distance away).

Discovery

The spell was first created by Lord Uvie, long before he ascended to godhood. Originally, it was made as a way to put soldiers out of their misery when injuries were too great to be cured by magic.   The spell was long forgotten when Lord Uvie became the god of death, as he feared that mortals would use it for malicious purposes. It was able to stay hidden, until a coven of liches rediscovered it with the help of an unknown god.

Material Components
Anything that can be used to cast spells (ex; the magic glands of ivierae, wands, etc…), plus the blood of suffering people.
Gestures & Ritual
The blood must be collected first through any means, and even stored in vials for later usage. Once blood is available, the caster must dip the tip of their wand in the blood (or cover whatever is used to cast the spell in the blood), and whisper a vesper about the person the spell is targeting. The caster must hold his hands during the prayer, with the casting item of choice touching the forehead of the caster. When the vesper is finished, a ball of light appears at the top of whatever is being used to cast the spell. With a simple “farewell” spoken, the caster points the wand in the general direction of the target, forming the purple butterfly that will then attempt to reach the target.
