Martial Albinism
Martial Albinism (so named as a riff off "partial albinism" and because it originated among Martial colonists) is a benign genetic mutation common in the population of Mars, and is perhaps the most obvious example of the genetic oddities that have resulted from space colonization. The mutation causes major underproduction of pigmentation in the eyes, altering the color of the iris. The color varies depending on what color the rest of the genes are coding for, with brown eyes appearing reddish-brown, blue eyes appearing a muddy purple, and hazel eyes--which it is most commonly associated with--appearing a rusty orange. It is sometimes associated with abnormal pigmentation in the skin and hair, causing vitiligo and patches of white hair, but it almost never affects the whole thing.
History
First recorded in an early Martial colonist named James Fedorov, it is theorized to have come about due to rapid mutation in the gene pool of early Martial colonists, as radiation shielding was less advanced, and the then-small population allowed for it to become unusually widespread. It remains most common among Martials, but it is not entirely unheard of to see it in individuals from other populations.
