The NuProvince 22XE Orca

Durable, reliable and endlessly customizable, the 22XE Orca is a common sight in every region of the system. Whether serving as a corporate transport vessel, a mobile center of operations for a spaceborne military force, or the flagship of a group of particularly well-organized pirates, an Orca is almost invariably the best tool for the job. Initially imagined as a military carrier, it has seen countless other roles in its storied 83 year history, and it's doubtful that it will be surpassed in popularity any time soon.

Power Generation

Orcas are outfitted with a proprietary NuProvince Quasar-7 thorium reactor, which is reputed to be one of the most reliable, low-maintenance nuclear reactors of its class. Some have called its power generation potential overkill for the 22XE Orca, but the excess allows for a far greater amount of viable aftermarket modifications, and has contributed to the Orca's great adaptability. Some groups have even managed to run short-range broadside laser cannons without a secondary power system--something which is virtually unheard of on other ships.

Propulsion

Propulsion is the main drawback on stock Orcas, as they are outfitted with nothing but a set of standard docking thrusters and a middling Léi-12 extra-atmospheric accelerator, meaning that Orcas effectively cannot dock on-planet without requiring a boost back into atmosphere--something which is made prohibitively expensive by their sheer bulk. They are also fairly sluggish without aftermarket propulsion systems, even for a Torrent class.

Weapons & Armament

The 22XE is not outfitted with weaponry by default, but has numerous attachment points for the most common weapon systems.

Armor and defense

Orcas are unusually heavily armored, even for a Torrent class, as durability and reliability are one of their greatest upsides. Military groups do tend to add additional armor plating, but most civilian and pirate crews find that the existing hull is plenty durable.

Sensors

Aside from standard wide-spectrum scanner arrays, video feeds and docking LiDaR systems, remote sensing capabilities on the 22XE is entirely dependent on aftermarket modification

Hangars & docked vessels

In addition to the standard escape pods recommended by the Rocketeer's Guild's spacing vessel guidelines, the Orca is outfitted with a Light Vessel launch rail on the top deck, and a port and starboard rapid deployment hangar.
