The tolling of the Bell of Creation

The preachers words repeated themselves in his head, the moment he stepped into the giant chamber:   "The last time the Bell of Creation was heard, has been ages ago. None remember it, except for the gods themselves. Maybe.   The only one, sure to remember, is the Goddess of Creation herself. She was the one who made the world. Remade the world. Into this world. A world we know very well and consider the only and true world. Yet the world, this world, has not always been thus. It has excisted before. But not in its current state. It was a world unlike ours. Filled with many other creatures, maybe even gods.   Only she, who remade us, made us to what we are today, truly knows. Before the Bell tolled, a world lived, as we do today. Yet, maybe in very different ways. Others have heard the call of the Goddess, of the Bell, soon to be rung.   If you want the world remain as it is, take up the quest and gain all you can. Find the Bell, ring it yourself, or wait until it rings on its own. For when nothing is presentd when the Bell rings, this world and every other world of ours will cease to exist.   So I beg you, brave ones, take on the quest. Save our existence, our world as it is now. Soon the Bell will ring, soon the Goddess will judge.   Creation shall happen again, Your choises and decisions will reshape the end result."   According to the qatekeeper outside, the Bell would sound in a few hours. How were they to decide? How were they to contact the Goddess? There was no Bell to be found here.   There were containers, carts, bottles, glass tubes, chambers made of wood or stone. Tables full of glasswork, metal cups and plates. Chests with and without drawers.   All varying in size from large to tiny. Not only that, all of it stood on wheels, or could be moved in some other way. Gears and wheels and winches were scattered inbetween all that.   It looked like the ultimate experimental den for some mad alchemist. It was a mess of all kinds of different things.   He looked at the artificer and magic users that were part of his team. Hopefully they could make sense of all this. The looks of wonderment and curiosity on their faces, did not bode well.   The look of 'playtime' and the accompanying smile on the artificers face, was even scarier. There was no certainty he understood he knew what to do here, either. But the look in his eyes betrayed his need to try out everything he could think of.   They had wandered far and wide, encountered and conquered many dangers. Barely made sense of the riddles and 'clues'. If they were. If they even were referring to this giant cave. Even the certainty of this being the right place, was still not proven in his mind. He was reluctant to allow the artificer to 'have fun with it', after all those hardships. Yet he was the only one that did not seem overwhelmed or at a loss for what to do at this place.   'Go ahead. Take the things we gathered. Please try to make it into a world we ALL can relate to.'   The artificer looked at him in shock. Then, raised his shoulders, took a backpack and started running around, inspecting every dish and cupboard he encountered. Pulling levers, pushing buttons, he made everything move as in a merry-go-round. Placing this here, that there.   He even, dutifully, asked for advise from the casters about some things. Everyone got questions to answer. Not that they seemed to make much sense though. Maybe, he was already finished and wanted to yank their chains a bit. He had a tendency for teasing after all. For what reasen, could he need to know how wet water needed to be? Or how strong the parkle of a gem?   He kept moving things, depending on the answers he got though.   Time was almost over, when he finally stopped. 'That should do it, I think. Well, most of it. I think we're still missing a few ingredients, but it should pose no problem for the overall result I think.' He was not entirely his beaming self, as he usually was after completing a task, only best suited for him. As a warrior, and as leader of the group, that was a very scary look to behold. But time was up.   The ringing of a Bell could be heard. Several bells, ringing and sounding as one. A celestial light filled the enormous space. A voice could be heard. The Goddess' voice?   'Welcome and thank you for taking up the quest. You have shown great courage and resourcefulness. I am pleased you have taken your time to choose. Now let me show you the results of your own making.'   Everything blurred into the celestial light. Underneath the party, a planet scattered into a myriad of tiny pieces. For soon, to be reformed once more into a world. A similar world, at a glance. The same world? Probably not.   Suddenly the party got hurled at an amazing speed towards its surface. Only to stop right before smashing onto its surface.   'Welcome, to the world you wanted. Live well and happy.' The Goddess' voice bid them farewell and left them there, on the surface of where that mad scientist lab had been hidden away. No more entrance to the underground to be found.   Now it was time for them to go and find out if they were truly home or not.
