Sons of Abbathor

A secret society of Dwarven outcasts and criminals.

A dwarven criminal organization formed from Dwarven outcasts, which have been expelled or voluntarily abandoned their clans. They believe the Dwarven Kingdom of Azadmere has stagnated, decaying, and needs to change.

The membership of this gang consists of innovators, opportunists, and, most of all, criminals. Most bitterly resent the highly structured dwarven society they are no longer part of and seek to make their fortune from various mostly criminal enterprises, stealing, smuggling, blackmail, and occasionally murder. They have a vast network of contacts, ranging from respectable dwarven society to the various human criminal organizations.

Joining the Sons, a dwarf must abandon their former family and enter a new one, one which the penalty for leaving is death. They usually have a black gemmed dagger tattooed on their hands.

Although illegal within the Kingdom of Azadmere, the Son's existence is officially denied.

Structure

Named after the Abbathor, divine Dwarven patron of change, innovation, thievery, greed, and avarice.

The Sons operate in a strict clan-like structure led by a senior criminal, called the Boss, controlling 5 to 12 members' activities.

Each Boss is a member of the ruling council called the Union of Outcasts, appointed by and reports to the Overboss. The Overboss selected by a majority vote of the Union of Outcasts and rules for life.

Some Gangs contain the Favoured of Abbathor. These individuals have a divine connection with the god Abbathor.

History

Formed from disenchanted Dwarves, many of whom had their entire Clan murdered during Lothrim's sack of the City of Kiraz.

This group unsuccessfully sought to change dwarven society, making it interact more with the outside world. When it became apparent that the Kings of Azadmere seemed intent on remaining in isolation, the Sons began a slow descent into criminal activities.

Membership is exclusively Dwarven.

Likely consist of no more than a dozen gangs of 5 to 12 members.
