Almelda Darkshoulder

Description

Almelda is the 7th, and youngest at only 25, child of the Darkshoulder merchant dwarf family from Baulder's Gate. Despite being the youngest, she ended up growing taller than the rest of her siblings, even reaching 5'2", causing many passersby to mistake her for a particularly stout human. She also keeps herself quite well-built and sturdy through regular exercise and training, a far cry from her more lackadaisical family. To top it all off she gives little mind to her outward appearance, even rejecting her family's attempts to mold her into the look of a higher-class noble like the rest of them. Here in the town of Mythrite she's been able to cut loose with her appearance, leaving her head of dark brown hair unkempt and cut short, and her face is spotted with unshaven stubble and totally devoid of any kind of makeup. Her clothing is always purely functional and seems perpetually dirty despite having the luxury of having them cleaned.

History

Almelda's very outward rejection of her family's way of life easily made her the designated "problem child" of the Darkshoulder family. She never really found a true drive of her own besides staying fit, it was always more about doing anything else other than what her family tells her. This included poking her nose where her family insisted it didn't belong, causing her to quickly discover the true nature of the Darkshoulder family business. Almelda always has a level of suspicion and cynicism about others, giving her a bit of a knack for finding out other's secrets. This however contrasts heavily with her loose and open nature about herself, making it clear to her family that she poses a severe risk of leaking her family secrets. Her second-eldest brother, Drandel Darkshoulder, was the first to suggest sending her off to Mythrite where she could put her physique to use in the family's mine claim, but more importantly it kept her far away from the family's usual dealings where there is low risk of leaks. Hired servants keep tabs on her as she works and lives in the town, though she doesn't seem to mind the mining work.    For now, Almelda enjoys the relative freedom Mythrite gives her. Her openness means she's made quick rapport with the other miners, though she can't shake the uneasy feeling she gets from many of the upper class folk quickly taking control of the town. She knows how to evade the family servants, so on days she isn't in the mine she finds herself sneaking out into town to learn of the goings-on.
