"A smile, a wink, a sway of a hip, a slow walk, and I win. Trust is currency and information is my trade. You hire me to deliver your secrets, as no one would deliver important information in an ugly envelope. The pittance you pay me is more than made up for by the reputation I’m gaining in the thieves’ guild. I know this pathetic backwater town inside out and backwards. If anything is known by more than one person, I’m the second to know and I make sure that the third and fourth pay dearly for the privilege.
I’m here to hone my skills. In an undefined and emerging social structure, it’s easy to influence and manipulate for personal gain. People are so predictable, malleable, and manipulated that this feels like a waste of my time. If the thieves’ guild didn’t put such value on the information coming out of Mythrite, I’d be weaving my way through the social elites of Waterdeep.
I am alone here, friend and confident to all who I feel are worth it, working my craft, gaining experience and credibility in the guild. I play with people like the toys they are, interested while they spin, but quickly discarded after they are broken or something shinier comes along.
You’ll rarely see me directly, but my influence and whispers are directing everything. I am the puppeteer, pulling the strings, unseen, and yet all-controlling. I take on the role of an exclusive messenger for hire, and you stupidly believe that it is all I do. You willingly hand your treasures to me, and I exploit that for every ounce of worth."
