Town Guard
The Town Guard are fewer than 10% of the total population, which is exponentially higher than in a city such as Waterdeep, yet also can feel too thin for some settlers. The problem, at least as some see it, is the informality of the arrangement and the lack of a central government to direct them. As it is, some town guards abruptly quit to join the Caravan Guard if they get bored with life in the town, and then promptly quit that job once they get their fill of life on the trail.
Another problem is that the town guards are routinely paid off for private security services, such as overnight watch of a merchant's stall. It has been said that the guard stood idly by protecting the stall of a paying customer while witnessing a thief pilfer from a stall across the lane. Others too have said that town guards have refused to respond to an emergency claiming to be on an errand for a wealthy benefactor. Who knows whether they were being honest or lazy?
Despite this, a good number serve the town guard nobly for the benefit of all of Mythrite, keeping the peace-lovers relatively safe and the hell-raisers reasonably in line. The guard themselves are split on the issue of creating a more centralized governing body.
