Wegrack Brewtoe
Wegrack Brewtoe fancied himself a family man. Much as he enjoyed spending time at home with his parents and younger siblings, times were hard. Money was growing ever scarcer by the day, and less and less food came to the table as a result. His family was sinking deeper into despair by the day, but when he heard tell of Mithril in the hills, a spark of hope was ignited within. It wasn't easy, but he resolved to head to Mythrite and bring his family back a fortune, so they'd never have to worry about going hungry again. He had left home and made the trek fueled on youthful enthusiasm, but when he arrived in Mythrite, the full weight of reality crashed down on him. He was alone, in an unfamiliar place.
He was somehow able to get work in a mine, though he barely got his words out when he tried applying in the first place. He dutifully did his work without asking questions. Partly because he wanted to focus on making money for his family, but it was mostly because the thought of talking to people was absolutely terrifying. He had heard fights - and possibly stabbings - more than once when he was relaxing in a tavern after work, so the idea of sticking his neck out and getting on the wrong person's bad side was the last thing he wanted to do.
While he tried avoiding people, he did desire some form of interaction and companionship. He found it easiest to get whenever he bought people drinks. People who otherwise would pretend he didn't exist suddenly started acting like they've known him for years whenever he offered a drink. It was nice, getting treated so nicely all for the cost of a simple drink.
Brewtoe found that people flocked to him, whenever he said yes to their requests for things. Most often, those requests were related to money. He loved the attention and warmth that came from others, even if it came at the cost of what little money he saved for himself out of his wages, but as long as he still had enough to feed himself, he was content.
After a few months of this, Wegrack began to hear whispers whenever he walked by. One night, after buying drinks for his coworkers as he usually did, he noticed that he hadn't spent as much as normally would. Before he could ask, someone told him that he had begun to rub off on people. The quiet, humble dwarf who did his work, sent money back home and then provided for the others was beginning to become a minor celebrity in Mythrilgist. Without even knowing it, Wegrack had begun leading by example, and a number of people he often saw tried to complain less, be less greedy, and more generous. Wegrack wasn't sure if he should be more scared of the attention he was getting or the fact that it was all built on lies.
