Sal Turran is the one responsible for the creation of the Harmonic Core System and a song science philosopher who has gained quite a few followers due to their focus on self-expression and understanding.
Sal's philosophy came first, before they became known as a great scientific mind. Being non-binary and actively using they/them pronouns, they frequently encountered anything from confusion to resistance when introducing themselves to others used to a "typical" gender binary. They began to draft a sort of introductory treatise on the nature of their "choice" to express themselves as non-binary, and they noticed some similarities to a different area of research.
As a Cross-Ley and a song magic user, Sal knew that the song magic crafting process was based on evaluations, perceptions, and concepts expressed in a person's mental landscape. They veered the topic of their treatise and their research to expression as it was needed for song magic crafting, and posited that the more aware of oneself a person is and the more they express their true self, the stronger a person's song magic will be.
Suffice to say that the theory added up upon testing; those who repressed their truths were found to have weaker song magic and less variety in song function overall. Sal became known as a champion for both those who felt trapped by their situations, and also for the LGBTQ+ communities around Mixolys (not quite an intended side effect but one they appreciated all the same). Looking around various Mixolys Internet forums will find Sal's name invoked by those who wish to express their true selves.
As for the Harmonic Core Systems, their current function was something of a happy accident. Sal originally created the Cores as a medium to enhance songcrafting through specific programming secondary to songs. Their ability to add onto regular songs themselves came into the fore later, though to this day Sal maintains that the cores are to be used for introspection and "self-debugging" when needed.

Personality Data

Those who have approached Sal in person have noticed a general warmness and acceptance in their demeanor. They are acutely serious about their research and what they stand for, however, and they will not suffer the presence of trolls gladly. They become very enthusiastic when asked about their research and their particular plans for it.

What is Sal doing now?

Rumors hold that Sal is planning to attend various conventions throughout Mixolys to hold panels on their expression research, and also to support certain communties. There's also a whisper that Sal is making a type of Harmonic Core that extends debugging songcrafting to the point of literally allowing users to access pieces of their mental world. Since Mentascenes (a Cross-Ley's mental world) are typically only viewed by others, the ability to look into oneself on that level would be a breakthrough development.
