Big Brother

Qualifications

The title of Big Brother is sometimes passed on to offspring, but it is just as often passed to a non-relative. When the current Big Brother announces their plans to step down or dies suddenly, the entire Goron tribe is involved in the choosing of the next Big Brother. Many Big Brothers will mentor a suitable successor, which is why sometimes offspring are chosen, but in the end, it's up to the people to choose their leader.

Cultural Significance

The Big Brother of the Goron tribe is their de facto leader and is still recognized as an important figure by the Hyrulean government, even though the Eldin province itself is now governed by an appointed provincial governor. Most Gorons would likely say that they refer to the Big Brother before any more "official" government representative.

Notable Holders

The Sage of Fire from the legendary Era of Time was a Goron, Darunia, with the title of Big Brother, as was the Goron Champion Daruk in the time of the Calamity.
