The city is used as a midpoint for shipping along the Zora River where goods can be exchanged or transferred to land transportation.

Built on a wetland, Goponga is divided into various "islands," connected with roads but primarily canals and ferries.

History

Despite not being the smallest provincial capital (Ordon and Kopeeki Station are both much smaller), it typically gets overshadowed by Zora's Domain as the flagship city of northern water country.
Goponga was one of the Hyrulean communities destroyed in the Calamity, but it was rebuilt during the reign of Queen Zelda I as the first major Hylian settlement in Lanayru, and thus became the provincial capital.

Goponga is located in the Telta Wetlands, in the southwest of Lanayru.
