Rolling City

Demographics

Rolling City is populated primarily by Gorons, Hylians, and Gerudo. Rolling City is a city all about industry, and most of its inhabitants are either factory employees or their descendants.

Infrastructure

Due to the constant haze in the air, from both to Death Mountain's natural emissions and the byproducts of the many production facilities, solar power alone isn't enough to power Rolling City, and this is offset by geothermal power plants dotted throughout the city.
Some routes that run up instead of across are impossible to drive on thanks to the steep slopes. Many large, ferry-like funiculars operate to connect to the roads that run across, and smaller passenger funiculars are located across the city as a part of the public transportation system.
Due to the rocky surface that the city is built on and the steep inclines, Rolling City does not have a subway system, only using above-ground trolleys and funiculars.

Districts

Rolling City is divided into two major sections: the Northeast End, built on the face of Mt. Daruk, and the larger Southwest End, built on a portion of the face of Death Mountain. The Northeast End has a higher concentration of wealth, and most of the offices and buildings there are more managerial in purpose. The lowest point of the city, "the Valley," is where the largest industrial complexes are built, and other manufacturing plants make their way up the Southwest End.

History

During Hyrule's industrial revolution, a small mining camp was established as a meeting place for Hylian workers and the Gorons of Death Mountain, which was deadly for Hylians to traverse without the aid of (at the time) costly fire-shield potions. Over the decades, this mining town became a city, named after the method of locomotion used by Gorons defending the mountain.

Points of interest

The city in its entirety is quite striking thanks to the extreme inclines it's built on. From high enough vantage points, like the peak of Mt. Daruk, one can see the entire city, and although the city itself isn's a major tourist destination, those who pass through often make a point to take in their surroundings.

Tourism

Tourism is not a major part of Rolling City's economy. At most, people pass through the city on their way to smaller settlements higher up Death Mountain, which is an attraction to those who like to travel. There are also other access points to the mountain all around its base, so some don't even bother. However, the old road up the mountain, which passes through Rolling City, is still commonly used by Gorons.

Architecture

Due to the geography, much of the city's architecture has been built to deal with steeper inclines than would typically be ideal. In order to remain vertical, many buildings have dramatically inclined foundations and are often secured heavily into the ground to avoid "slipping," as well as to minimize damage in the case of tremors from the volcano.
Stylistically, most buildings are blocky and utilitarian. The city is built around industry, not aesthetics, and so buildings do their best to maximize livable area on the steep slopes without much concern for looking nicer than blocks of steel and concrete. Some older residential buildings and apartment complexes are made of red bricks, and these buildings are seen as "nicer" than others.

Geography

Rolling City is located at the north-eastern base of Death Mountain, with the treacherous road to Goron City just beyond its limits. Due to being positioned on this side of the mountain, the city is built in the valley between Death Mountain and Mount Daruk. Although the original mining camp was situated in the flattest, widest point of the valley, as it expanded and became a city it had to climb up the sides of the two mountains. It only goes up a small portion of the side of Death Mountain, the volcano is simply that large, but the side of the city on Mount Daruk goes all the way up.
