Sages are usually paid a salary decided on by their temple's community, taken as a part of the funds necessary to operate the temple.

Perception

Purpose

Sages serve as religious leaders. In smaller communities, they will lead congregations in worship, but the title also extends to higher-ranking positions like the Seven Sages, one of whom may be the current Queen Zelda on the throne.

Social Status

Sages are generally viewed as a positive and fairly vital part of a community. It offers no particular renown and by paygrade alone is by no means an "upper class" kind of job, but sages are valued by their congregations and often looked up to as influential community leaders.

History

So long as there have been people in Hyrule wanting to worship, there have been sages there to guide and teach them.
