The Hyrule Historia

Purpose

The Hyrule Historia is the encyclopedia of Zelda I's lifetime of studies. She was an avid scholar and archaeologist and attempted to piece together Hyrule's disjointed early history as best as she could, involving all of the races and species of the land. Her studies were able to trace back to a few centuries before the Era of Time, and although the pieces are still fragmented, the Historia remains the most thorough piece of classical Hyrulean history to date.

Document Structure

Publication Status

The Historia was originally published as a single enormous bound book, kept in the library at Hyrule Castle. It was available for members of the public to read while under supervision. In accordance with Zelda I's will (she passed away less than a year after the book was completed), a team of scribes made additional copies that were gifted to settlements throughout the nation, a multi-year process. When the printing press was invented, the Historia was one of the first texts to be put into widespread print and most community libraries and schools would purchase a copy. In the modern-day, the book is easy to find at book stores (it's massive, though, and quite expensive on paper), and can also be found for free online at isn-hyrulehistoria-gov (not to be confused with isn-webhistoria-org, which is Hyrule's top online encyclopedia that teachers are just never going to let you use as a citation on a school project).
