Nekomimi-itis

The Adorable Fungal Zombie Apocalypse of Cute Doom

"I'm not certain I would call this bioweapon a 'happy accident'--so much as just wish something else less terrible had prompted the peace talks"
--Karen High General of Reptilians
"We've decided it was Robin Goodfellow's fault. The fact he was no where near any of the equipment or events is being brought up as an argument. That 'not being anywhere near it' is more an indication of his guilt for this than anything else."
--Dave Davidson, Fae Guard Responsible for Keeping Puck Too Amused To Cause Problems (sentenced for crimes against Fae-Kind)
"This was the original premise of my Zombie movies. Various producers suggested I remove the cat like elements on accounts that it did not seem realistic."
-- John A Romero

It had been the greatest moment of little Susie's life. Her cat ears had popped in and she had a tail. Such joy would not be able to stop--or ever end. Swishing her tale back and force--a ringing filled her ears. Followed by a giant flash of light. Smoke filler her living room--and many strange looking alien looking creatures entered into her house

She did not know that these were hazmats suits they were wearing. Nor that her entire house had been put into quarantine via various forces that had let this matter go on for longer than it should have. Had it been caught earlier she'd have been replaced with a trained Fae actor to pretend to be dead. Now they had to incinerate the entire city block. She would go to the Nekomimi colonies in a quarantined area of the Otherworld until the end of her now unnaturally extended life.

Her old memories of herself would go away as the spores dig deeper into her, completely replacing her own person with the faculties to produce more Nekomimi spores and be cute and adorable enough to attract others to be filled with Nekomimi spores. She was already long gone.

Transmission & Vectors

Transfers into the air and affects the subject's nervous system. Several body parts will pop up to add ways for the nekomimi fungal disorder spread to all living creatures nearby. Upon having ears pop out, tail come out and fangs, affected persons will move to highly crowded areas to appeal to adorability elements of people nearby--and spread as many spores to the population.

Causes

Upon having a spore inhaled through the lungs, land in cut skin, land in your eyes, land in your colon or underneath your fingers, the fungal creature will take hold into the host organism. The fungal disorder will slowly affect the entire nervous system by growing nerve on nerve.

Before the fungal disorder hits the brain stem hosts of the disorder have mentioned that it felt "warm, fuzzy and filled them with happiness all over"

Upon hitting the brain stem the subject experiences a brain death. Various elements of the previous person will show up in a weird cat like state. This is not brain activity but a weird set of movements of the fungal infection that mimic brain activity by pushing on various nerve endings. At this point a cat like tail will spring from the end of the spine, cat-like ears will form at the ear parts of the head, long fungal like whispers will come from the cheeks, their teeth will deform in a fang like state--and these will resort to wearing little to no clothing and moving on all fours.

Symptoms

When it first starts a warm happy feeling forms in the affected area of the body. Which is kind of off putting when it is something like only your pinkie finger on your right hand. Muscle spasms occur on the affected body part--and the person affected starts to lose control of that body part which moves on its own. Though usually based upon muscle memory--but in a somewhat feline fashion of that muscle memory

Treatment

If caught before it gets to the brain stem, it is possible to amputate and surgically remove the affected parts in an carbon monoxide based atmospheric chamber. This will cause major health issues for the person being treated--but it does result in a chance to survive. Modern day treatment techniques have started also having mustard gas be part of the carbon monoxide based environment that the amputation is done in.

Due to them still resembling the person they were before and complications from people being infected by Feline Toxoplasmosis upon this fungal infection reaching the spinal column it is not possible for many to comprehend the infected person is now dead. Euthanasia via atmospheric poisoning and plasmifiation of the air chamber thus is generally not possible--despite being the advised way to remove the fungal disorder. So a colony of the infected exists that these sorts live out their unnaturally extended days upon.

Prognosis

If amputated and plasmified early (in a toxic atmospheric chamber), the patient can live minus the affected limb.

In cases of a lung based infection the fate of being a fungal based cat-like zombie is the only possible out come.

Upon death of the host the fungal infection will continue to live off the body until the body has been completely consumed by the fungal infection--at which point the body will look like a pile of cat hair. Though it is not cat hair--it is dried out long fungal life forms that are in a form of stasis. Though, it can take quite some time for the fungal life forms to fully consume the body--as they will still have the body eat food and digest it--but in an altered digestion process. One that is only possible due rigor mortis' affects on the abdomen.

Sequela

The person will be inclined to meow much more often, try to speak "cat" when they can, bat around yarn, chase after the red dot, avoid wearing clothing and looking as adorable as possible

Affected Groups

It does not seem to differentiate on who it affects. Though, people with a more developed immunity system can resist the effects for long. Making the condition inclined to hit children and the elderly even harder

Hosts & Carriers

Most humanoid creatures can carry it

Prevention

There is an attempt to plasmify any places that the fungal condition exists outside of the allowed enclosures of the disorder.

Epidemiology

The spores will fly from the affected body parts of the patient. The spores have a rather limited range they can move before crumbling up. The fungal parts themselves have a stasis mode. The fungal infection makes use of Feline Toxoplasmosis to draw in crowds close enough to it to spread via various populus areas

History

The Reptilians were attempting to move away from the Flaming Poop Flinging Primates--and had managed to stumble into the Other World. A subgenus of humans now being referred to as Fae had moved into the Other World. The Reptilians were not able to move away and avoid the Fae--and a war for several decades occurred. In which the Reptilians reverse engineered Fae technology and the Fae did the same... making weapons out from it.

This Fungal infection was the result of spy-counter spy operations of the two researching new weapons, stealing other weapon research, combining the two--and creating a weird mixture of long technological work switching back and forth.

Cultural Reception

This resulted in peace talks and treaties between the Fae and Reptilians. As there are some lines that should never be crossed. This was well beyond them.

Fae and Reptilians begun work to deal with and treat any and all those who have gotten hit with the case--and work to remove any all affects of this condition that still are out there.

It is kind of a Fae and Reptilian Landmine Clean Up thing
