The Mother of Plagues

As creation first began to blossom and grow, it began to grow wilder and lusher, threatening to overpopulate and strangle the resources of the living. It is said that none of the gods had the will to cut back and limit their own creations and the world would soon be strangled and overgrown in creation. From this burst of life and growth, Caena was formed, perhaps from necessity. But her appearance brought an end to the overwhelming bloom. Poison, disease, and illness slowed and choked back the growth. Despite her necessity, the other deities disliked her harming their creations and Caena grew bitter and malicious as she isolated herself from the others. She demands respect and has brought nations to their knees to remind them to heed her. She is worshiped by healers and those suffering from illness and suffering as they give her respect to plead for her mercy. Assassins and dark rogues hold homage to her to bless the poisons that they would use.

Caena is often depicted as what should be a beautiful woman, but whose skin is withered and dusky, giving her a haunting appearance. Her long, pointed nails are depicted wet and dripping with poison.

Tenets of Faith

• Let all living things learn respect for Caena and pay homage to her in goods and prayer. If they do, intercede for them so that Caena will not claim them--yet.
• Do not let power grow unfettered, make certain it shows respect and humility.
• Do not hesitate in the face of death. Everything has an end.

Holidays

Her holy day follows the final autumn harvest, as her followers collect offerings and demand respect for her to keep her at bay over the winter months.
