Abraxus

“I can see why she’s pushing this so hard. I feel amazing!”   -Clayton “Straphandle” Walkers, after taking Abraxus

Abraxus is a drug the party first encountered in Alluminos. They have since encountered Abraxus in various forms across the Melchior Region in Alloyus. During their travels they've learned Abraxus has a few working variants, which are detailed in Medea's Journal.   It’s an arcane serum made from a few different components. If it makes contact with a being's eyes or insides, the drug takes hold. Once “ingested” the user becomes sick for a brief moment only to turn into a disfigured bestial version of themselves. The transformed person is then overcome with revelry and a desire to destroy all around it for sport.   After the effects wear off, the wielder suffers from hallucinations and feverish sweating before passing out. The user then becomes addicted to the substance, and can smell when an Abraxus source is nearby.   Abraxus in Mashica means “God’s Enemy.”   Known people to have be affected:
  • Valgore (Alluminos): Half orc, used it in self defense and killed the bouncer at the Sweet Land. (Abraxus 5)
  • Clayton “Straphandle” Walker (Alluminos): Human, used it against the party when it looked like he was about to lose a fight. (Abraxus 3)
  • Lieutenant Darvo Saardior: Orc, ingested it when trying to force it upon Madam Coro'Nea. Clashed with his demonic powers, making him significantly easier to take down, but also extremely dangerous to everyone around him. (Abraxus 3)
  • Kazimier Marlowe: Aasimar, came into contact with Abraxus Prime trying to keep it safe from Delphine. Transformed into a monstrous beast and attacked the party. (Abraxus Prime)
  • Clem of the Flying Couatl: Half-Elf, came into contact with Abraxus Prime after it was expelled from Kazimier. (Abraxus Prime)
  The Effects of Abraxus
  • + 4 to your six attribute scores
  • Advantage on all saves against magic attacks that negatively affect you
  • -10 to all damage to HP
  • AC +2
  • Attack action gains additional attack.
  • Immune to sleep, charm, or fear unless the effect is from a Fiend of "Revelry" persuasion.
  • All damage you take, double that to your sanity. When you drop to zero sanity, you can reroll a wisdom, intelligence, or charisma save to overcome the Abraxus’ effects.
  • When you drop to zero hp, you gain one level of exhaustion, and you stay conscious. Any additional damage you take means you lose 1 failed death save. If you lose all 3 you die and revert back to your normal form.
  • Additional abilities: Breath weapon, 7d6 acid damage 30 ft cone, enemies make a Dexterity save equal to or greater than your Spell Save DC (if you do not cast spells, it is instead 8 + Con + Prof). Zero damage on a successful save.
  • You are unable to speak except through laughter. You can laugh to cast your verbal components in spells.
  • You gain 5d6 HP for every enemy you knock to zero hp.

Utility

The party is aware of two times Abraxus was used primarily for combat. Seeing as its influence causes people to violently and insanely lash out, the party considered it an act of terrorism.

Manufacturing

Abraxus appears to be composed of three major ingredients:
  1. Nightshade (Dark): Nightshade taken from the Shadowfell is the main composition of this serum. It’s inclusion allows the serum to remove the user’s morality and inhibitions, as well as seemingly their sense of pain.
  2. A Mortal Soul: The soul of a living being is needed. This acts as a binding agent to keep the NightShade (Dark) from either returning to the Shadowfell or turning into normal, non-magical nightshade.
  3. Blood Related to the Demon of Revelry: The most unusual component,as demons typically do not bleed. It is unknown how this comes to be available, but the blood from the Demon of Revelry enhances the user’s violent and hedonistic tendencies in place of the portions subdued by the Nightshade

Access & Availability
According to the party’s findings, this serum had become known for weeks, but there was only two or three people who had access to it. Since Alluminos, the Party found it was primarily connected to Morgan Stitchdoll, and has been found across many people in her sphere of influence.
Complexity
A remarkable serum, manufacturing process unknown. Difficult to make. Medea's books discuss the portion of the manufacturing that involves a living person.
Discovery
Unknown.
