Feroxian Liberation Campaign

Synopsis

The Feroxian Liberation Campaign is considered the most significant event in Verous since the Tapestry's Sundering. It cites the protracted battle lasting a quarter of a century between the Keeper's Arcane and the Feroxian Liberation Coalition for control over Verous. The true amount of deaths were incalculable, and yet people still regard it as one of the most progressive moments in history.   The historical event has been immortalized through meticulous documentation, art, and prose. It is safe to say there are few fields of study as well known in the public conscience as this war.   The war lasted a quarter of a century, yet its origins began 15 years prior.   -41 A.E. to -26 A.E. Birth of a Leader   On the first day of the New Year, a champion was born. Prophecies told of the one who would unite them all. As written on the Tapestry of Verous, he was born at the time when all the celestial bodies were in alignment, an event called The Equinox that occurs once every 12,480 years.   Alaric of Zhen was blessed with the power of the Mother Sun, and from a young age, helped unify the people of the northern lands. Through great charisma and insight he was able to unite the Halflings and Humans under the banner of Ferox. It was here he gained the name The Verdant King. The land was then redubbed Ferox.   -25 A.E. to -18 A.E. The Argentian War: Dwarven Clans vs. the Lycanthropic Plague   He brought his campaign to the west in Argentis, where he met his first ally; a Dwarven blacksmith named Feodor the Wise, known as The Amber Master. Feodor was also blessed by the gods, for the Dawn Warrior had gifted him with forging skills unlike any other. Together they recreated the Stone Table of Argentis, and drove back the Blackmoon Cult that plagued their lands. Finally at peace, and having helped them reclaim their lands, the Dwarves allied themselves with The Verdant King through The Amber Master.   Alaric received a missive from The Father Moon’s chosen, in which they were gifted a golden seed. Their benefactor urged them it was needed if the Eastern Lands were to be saved.   -18 A.E. to -15 A.E. The Aurumi War: The Vermillion Sage's and the Rebirth of the Aurum Baum   Alaric brought his campaign to the east in Aurum, where he met an Elven magician named Jayshra Maho’Doa, known to her people as The Vermillion Sage. She inherited the blessing of The Dusk Mage and had magic prowess rivaling that of an Arcana. Together they defeated the source of conflict between the Elf Tribes and regrew The Aurum Baum. Now allied with the Dwarves of Argentis and the Elves of Aurum, Alaric has formed the Feroxian Liberation Coalition. Now all that was left was to liberate the southern lands of Cuprum.   -15 A.E. to -12 A.E. The Arcana United - The Cerulean Oracle Emerges   In the southern wastelands the last of The Keepers Arcane had joined forces against The Feroxian Liberation Coalition. Using a powerful artifact they enslaved the Orcs into demonic war-bands to combat Alaric’s union. The Arcana’s forces ravaged the north, west, and east, splitting the Coalition’s forces and weakening their strongholds. All was not lost, however, as The Father Moon’s blessed one finally made herself known to Alaric, Feodor, and Jayshra. Clad in the same robes as an Arcana, Iselle Autumbre stood before the Coalition’s council and declared herself the one who guided Alaric’s journey.   Many were aghast at this, for she was The Cerulean Oracle, the prophet The Arcana used to keep the lands in check. Her name was whispered with fear and reverence, for she was said to be a witch with a wicked heart. At first many declared she should be executed. However, Alaric asked her to explain her tale. Like Alaric, Iselle was also born under the Equinox and burdened with purpose from the Heavenly Wellspring. From a young age she was forced to use her bloodline’s powers to oppress Verous’ people. Eventually the horror of what The Arcana had done was too great for her to bear, and when she had a vision of Alaric’s campaign she knew it was only right to aid him. Since then she had been working in secret to aid his campaign. She had to be careful not to expose herself to the Arcana lest they use her to undermine his mission.   Though some were skeptical, Alaric could tell her connection to the Heavenly Wellspring was true, and came from a place of virtue. Verified by his allies, Feodor and Jayshra, Alaric declared Iselle a founding member of the Coalition, and that the Chosen of the Divine Quartet can at last bring the war to an end.   At first content to simply defend his land, Alaric was visited in a dream by one who claimed to be blessed by The Father Moon. She implored him his work was not done and that he needed to aid the rest of the war-torn lands of Verous.   -12 A.E. - 5 A.E. The Divine Chosen's Final Campaign   United, it took the Four everything they had to defeat the remaining Arcana. Through brutal battles across the lands of Cuprum, the war waged heavily on all sides. The first few years saw no progress on either side, until finally the Cerulean Oracle was able to slay Arcana Muutar in the Red Sand Desert.   The lost of Arcana Muutar heavily weighed on the Arcana forces, who then resorted to more underhanded tactics. Shock and Awe tactics done by the Arcana, aided by their mastery of Teleportation, decimated many of the troops not stationed in the south. Revivals of the Blackmoon Cult, and Summoning extraplanars were done to hamper any progress and sow discord among the United front. During these times, Jayshra Maho'Doa and Feodor the Wise's tactics were indispensable.   Through a series of clever maneuvers planned by the champions of Dusk and Dawn, Alaric was able to direct his troops to the areas before they were hit by shock and awe tactics. It was here that many Arcana grew sloppy, and were slain at the sites of their battle.   In spite of these gains the war in Cuprum had devastated Iselle's homeland. She proposed the group end the war by striking deep into the heart of the Arcana: The Tower of Oxidus. Having no love for battle, the four of them agreed, and chose to end the fighting themselves.   Together the four of them scaled the Tower of Oxidus and slew the last of The Keepers Arcane. They then broke the Arcana’s hold on the war-bands. This day, on Olvari 13th, became known as The Quelling Day. At long last the conflict came to end, and the land was finally at peace.

The Conflict

Prelude

The Keeper's Arcane had ruled over Verous as a separate series of entities since the Night of Falling Stars.    Many people had been kept either in war torn areas or in subservience for centuries at the Keeper's Behest.    The Four Champions would all be born around the same time, at the Equinox that saw their chosen status bequeathed.

Deployment

The conflict began as a simple hope for independence of Alaric Ron Zhen's own people. It grew quickly into a united front against the Keeper Arcane that enslaved most of the northern region.   Eventually it grew to encompass the other three regions. First Alaric's forces united with Feodor the Wise's clan. Upon recreating the Silver Table, the two fought back the hordes of Lycanthropes that had been unleashed upon the dwarven and gnomish clans.   In Aurumo Alaric and Feodor brought Jayshra the seed to the Aurum Baum. They then joined her on a quest, where she needed to find the ingredients to ensure the tree would blossom and grow. Upon doing so, she bequeathed speacial objects made from the tree into her most trusted friends, who were also the first of her clan.   The battle in cuprum took the longest as it was the seat of the Arcana's power.
