Magical Lumber

Magical Wood refers to lumber and trees that contain magical properties. Throughout the world of Morado there are several trees that, if harvested correctly, can provide whatever object they are crafted into to become an object of magical focus or magical item.       Magical wood comes in three types: Enchanted, Innate, and Anomalous.

Enchanted Lumber

Enchanted Wood refers to wood that has either been actively blessed or cursed by a magical being. Lumber of this sort often acts as its base wood does, but has the added bonus of being enchanted to hold some sort of magical property. However, wood that had been enchanted in this way is permanently affected in such a manner. Planting a sapling made from magical wood will not beget more of its kind, as the tree will grow faster, but not be magical.   Objects made of Enchanted wood can and are able to be destroyed in traditional manners. Only high grade or high quality wood can withstand being infused with magic, otherwise it shrivels or doesn't take the enchantment.   Examples of Magical Wood (Enchanted) are:
  • Rosewood blessed by a dryad to be malleable like clay.
  • Mahogony crafted into a club that also deals fire damage.
  • Pinewood enchanted to give off lantern light.
  • Cherrywood pendant that helps the user see in the dark.

Anomalous Lumber

Anomalous Lumber refers to wood that once was one type, but has become another type of magical wood through various means. Wood of this variety tends to be affected by outside forces, such as creature interference, magical germ or viruses, or even effects of a nearby portal to another plane of existence.
Wood of this nature often takes on the purest manifestation of whatever force is acting upon it. As such the wood would function as lumber, but will have an innate property. Usage of it tends to be more arcane in nature, thought there have been non-combat or magic uses for them.   Wood in this nature can be destroyed, but must first be reverted back to its mundane form. This is often done by hitting the object with an excessive form of its antithetical magical property (water to fire, wind to earth, light to dark, etc.)   Examples of Magical Lumber (Anomalous) are:
  • A spear that has the added property of being a beacon of light, blessed by being near the Plane of Light.
  • A helmet that has the added property of enshrouding its wielder in shadow, made from Mahogany (Dark).
  • A shield made of flames that blocks ice damage.
  • A necklace that saves its wearer from being harmed after falling a great distance.

Innate Wood

This type of wood comes from special, magical trees. These trees are extremely rare, and only grow in highly specific circumstances. They tend to alter the ground around them, and if one is in a biome it tends to create a micro biome within itself. These trees are magical throughout their entire being, not just the wood. It is ioften considered wasteful to cut down an entire tree of this if the fruit, plant life, biome, animals, that it fosters is equally or more valuable than the lumber itself.    Unlike Anomalous wood, these trees are inherently magical, and beget other trees of magical nature.   Examples of Magical Lumber (Innate) are:
  • Aurum Baum (Golden): Golden Trees that are the focal point of Aurumo and Elven culture. Integral for rearing elven newborns.
  • Dragonleaf Tree: Vibrant copper trees with holographic leaves. Integral to the Coming of Age ceremony for many Akacheta. Areas around this tree tend to become siginificantly more fertile.
  • Willow of Sorrow: A will tree who's roots and bark are dark black and filled with a poisonous liquid. The leaves are also fruit, and beget watery plants. Areas around this tree tend to have poisoned water, and the ground where exposed roots stick out tend to have noxious gas.
  • Skeleton Maple: A thin, silver tree with white branches that resemble bones. When the wind blows one is said to be able to hear whispers and secrets of a long time dead creatures. Animals that ingest the bark from this tree tend to gain a silver sheen, and their skeletons become visible through their bodies. It is said those who reside within the tree's bounds are safe from death.
