Stop the Witch

Swift, Rhogar, and Zassini all were travelling when they found fliers for a village called Riverrun, which seemed to need help for gold. They met at a crossroads, Zassini eating her flier as they decided to join forces for this event, and heading to the human village. Upon arrival, they noticed the significant amount of distrust they villagers had to the group of non-humans.

Upon locating the mayor's house, they were informed by the mayor himself of the problem of a 'witch' to the west of the village that was likely the cause of people vanishing. He proposed paying the three of them twenty gold to find the caves she was likely hiding in and stopping her, which the three of them agreed. The trio purchased potions from a local apothecary, entertained the village crazy man Huke, and headed out.

After finding and entering the cave, the three of them found three guards who had been missing fighting each other and several corpses. Upon speaking to them, the guards attacked them, and after being slain there were coins found on their person. Another person was found in the first section of the caves, and this one simply stared out at nothing until spoken to once more before attacking. Zassini and Rhogar collected a vial of water, though Zassini also took the lungs and heart of the human she killed as well. The lungs would then come in handy when they attempted to lure the wolves on the other side of the wall to them, even though it ultimately failed.

When they slipped through, they fought the wolves, and found the witch. She ranted about something she could hear, something they couldn't and accused them of "bringing it in". Swift attempted to help soothe the witch by deafening her, which failed, and a fight ensued. As the witch lay dying, she spoke of the sound, saying that they couldn't hear it now, but they would one day. It was as she spoke that Rhogar stabbed her once more, concerned she was trying to curse them. As she died, her form changed into a dryad.

Upon returning to Riverrun, Mayor Arpa was distraught that they had killed her, hoping for them to instead have found another way of making her stop. He paid them, and the three went to the Sloppy Rogue to drink, eat, and in Zassini's case, cook up a human heart and eat it. In the morning, Zassini had left to return to her village for a time, and left work with the barmaid, Maoka. A human female arrived named Kaya of the Mist with a flier in hand, and was promptly informed that the witch had already been killed. As they left, a scream came from the mayor's residence, and when they opened the door, a rabbit with an oversized hat and long scarf came bolting out to jump into Maoka's arms.

This rabbit was, in fact, the good mayor himself in his true form. Inside of the house on his table was Delilah's severed head and a wooden plank with a message on it in Sylvan. Arpa admitted that he, and Maoka, were animals that had been given sentience by Delilah to watch over the village for her, and she had been a silent and unknown force of benevolence in Riverrun before a few months back when she began to change. His staff that gave him his human form back in hand (or mouth), he informed them of trouble in Midbourne, a village to the west a week away, to which Kaya, Swift, and Rhogar decided to go and assist there.
