Anchorage

"What can you possibly have to believe in out there?" asked Lilianne, eyes wide in curiousity.
Her mother smiled, reaching for the silver compass around her neck. "My dear, there's plenty to have faith in when you're at sea," she said, "Your boat, your crew, the ocean, o' course. But plenty o' folk forget the most important one: yourself."
Lilianne pulled a face, confused at the vague response. "I don't get it. Why is one person so much more important than everything else? I don't believe in me more than I believe in... the sun!"
Her mother chuckled, pulling Lilianne into her side. "It's not believing that other things don't exist, darlin' girl, it's about havin' something to hold onto. No matter what, you're always gonna be there for you. You gotta be your own anchor."

Structure

Very individualist, almost no locations of organized worship. Generally the faith of seafarers and their families, so being on/close to the ocean is considered to be beneficial to one's faith.

Spirituality is divided along two lines in this faith: Sense and Self. These are the Powers, the ones that Anchites believe can guide them through the world. Sense is knowledge, navigation, future, and freedom, whereas Self is wisdom, belonging, past, and peace. By finding a balance between these aspects (sometimes called Tides), it is believed that one will have everything that they need within themselves to find their way in life.

Of course, it is not often that a person is perfectly balanced. Anchites will frequently spend time in meditation, trying to assess themselves and how they can properly reach this balance. Those who can connect to the mystic forces of the world are often believed to be naturally more balanced than the rest. However, some believe that balance isn't the key to success, and will instead focus on enhancing the Tide that they think benefits them most in life. A ship's navigator, for example, might try to strengthen their Sense above their Self.

Meditation often takes place in the use of certain items, as Anchites believe that these physical things can help guide them mentally. These items often have personal significance: Aron St.Beth writes with a calligraphy pen he's owned since childhood to meditate on Self, and uses a compass made by his father to meditate on Sense. These associations can be straightforward or seemingly arbitrary; all that matters is that they hold significance for the individual.

History

This faith goes back to sailors lacking things to believe in while on the high seas. They had no places of worship, no tangible connections to any other religion, so they turned to themselves. Such a belief focuses on physical objects of personal/practical significance and their daily use.
