Quinn Allen

24 April, 298 6c.

Venerable Vice-Admiral Tian,

I regret to inform you that there has been an oversight in the latest assignment to the
Hopewell. I did not request a replacement Chief Officer- as a matter of fact, I had previously filed approval to promote Lieutenant Margot Anista to the position, and I find it doubtful that there could be any complaints about her qualifications or dedication to service. I cannot fathom why I have been assigned an officer fresh out of training, let alone how I am supposed to give him command over my crew. I am unaware if you had anything to do with this matter, but allow me to assure you that, if you'd have met this Officer Allen, you should have immediately seen that he does not belong in this position. I have heard talk that he comes from wealth, so I'm inclined to believe that his parents' gold is currently lining our coffers. If I'm out of line in that assumption, do please correct me. However, I hope that this situation can be remedied before the Hopewell leaves port on Wednesday, as I can assure you with all confidence that Officer Allen is completely unprepared for any command position, let alone one of this caliber. I will be hearing from you soon.

Captain Jeremy Wilson

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Quinn is in shape due to his training in the Fharyn Naval Defense Program. He's notably hardy, though perhaps it's more bullheadedness than constitution. Unfortunately prone to sunburn.

Body Features

Pale skin, often flushed red from the sun or his emotions. Freckles all over, no scars.

Facial Features

Diamond face shape, upturned nose, perfect eyebrows.

Identifying Characteristics

Easy to find by his bright hair and stiff posture.

Physical quirks

Right handed except for writing. Posture switches between very stiff and very loose, the former likely being a remnant of his upbringing. Walks with confidence.

Special abilities

In tune with lagan, tends to ignore them.

Apparel & Accessories

Bears a Fharyn Defense Fleet uniform: black shoes, grey stockings, navy breeches, black undershirt + cravat, grey jacket; a single gold epaulet on his right shoulder signifies his rank. Always armed with at least one firearm and one blade.

Specialized Equipment

Quinn is exceptional at combat, both armed and unarmed, though he sometimes allows his emotions to guide him more than his training. He's also well trained in strategy and command techniques, though he does not have as much opportunity to utilize these.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Quinn was born the only child of a wealthy trading family in Port Ten Emerit, the center of trade of mainland Fharyn, and as such he lived a very privileged childhood. His favorite view as a child was that of the sun setting or rising over the busy harbor of the port, and that love of the ocean lead to a determination to become a sailor. Rather than joining his parents' merchant fleet, however, young Quinn decided that he wanted to grow up to join the navy. His parents, though lukewarm at best to that idea, nonetheless humored him and allowed him to enroll in the Fharyn Naval Training program. They hoped that the rigor of training would bring Quinn to his senses, but they were astoundingly incorrect. Quinn excelled at his studies and picked up a strong sense of justice along the way. This caused him to pursue a position among the Fharyn Defense Fleet, a specialized group under Navy jurisdiction that was dedicated to hunting pirates. Quinn's parents absolutely detested the idea that their son would put himself in so much danger as well as forsaking the family business, but they knew him well enough to recognize that they wouldn't change his mind. Instead, they levied their money and influence in order to purchase him a command position with one of the most notoriously successful yet strict captains in the fleet, hoping that he would quench his taste for adventure and come home to a safer life.

Gender Identity

Male

Education

Ten years of good private education (though he was only an average student), graduated from the Fharyn Naval Training program with high marks and many commendations from his instructors. Focused on combat, command techniques, and ship-handling.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Succeeded in his goal of joining the Fharyn Defense Fleet.

Failures & Embarrassments

Feels guilty that his parents bought his successes, even if he has proven himself despite that.

Mental Trauma

People consistently doubted his own merits as a result of his parents' wealth and meddling, so he's extremely self-conscious and eager to prove himself as a result.

Intellectual Characteristics

Book smart, though prone to forget it. Good at assessing situations when calm, usually provides fresh insight or an unexpected perspective. Black and white thinking.

Morality & Philosophy

Quinn's sense of right and wrong was forged by his upbringing and Defense Fleet training. Therefore, he tends to subconsciously believe that the law is always morally correct, which is frequently challenged by his captain's unorthodox ways.

Taboos

Hates letting others take credit for what he's done, condones abuse of power and authority over others.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Needs to prove himself, even if he has to kill every last pirate in Morova to do so.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Surprisingly decent interpersonal skills, at least in a one-on-one setting. Excellent strategical thinker, unarmed combat specialist. Bad at formal negotiations, still uneasy in a command role.

Virtues & Personality perks

Intensely driven and loyal once earned, a good friend.

Vices & Personality flaws

Easy to anger, which completely clouds his otherwise capable judgement. Will hold in his rage and indignation until it practically explodes, propelling him to make bad decisions. Very dependent upon others' approval of him.

Personality Quirks

Posture and language both loosen up when he's with people he's comfortable around. Cannot hold his liquor, but he thinks he can.

Social

Social Aptitude

Decently charismatic, though it tends to be unknowing on his part. Confident, but easily prone to doubt if people question him. Iron-clad etiquette when called for, often seems a bit stuffy compared to other sailors.

Mannerisms

Speaks stiffly to higher-ups, avoiding eye contact and keeping his hands behind his back. Bad at eye contact in general.

Speech

Speaks with an incredibly posh Fharyne accent, averse to swearing and uncouth language when he first joins the Hopewell crew. Very skilled at imitating others' voices.
