Session 17 - Flight of the Cowards

General Summary

When last we left our heroes...

Vomit & Blood leapt into battle with Cillian and Jillian deThae, but after only getting to do a few cool things with their new gear, Jillian said to her brother, "Bah! We have better things to do than deal with this rabble. The tower will take care of them anyway," and the two of them dove off the edge of the platform and teleported away. Trickles jumped down after them, finding a deep (but not bottomless) chasm filled with sharp metal and bits of discarded automatons. He then used his hook shot to launch himself back up onto the central platform.   Now that they had time to look around, the party took stock of the room they were in. They noticed large metallic semi-spheres positioned along the wall, and stone pedestals on every platform, the largest of which was on the southern-most platform. The pathways leading between platforms were extremely narrow, only about a foot wide. Trickles made his way over to the southernmost pedestal and found atop it a stone dial, with the symbol of a bow and arrow atop it. To the side of the pedestal was a very prominent lever.   Glitz went towards the north platform, intending to do an impressive gymnastics bar routine across the pathway, but as she stepped onto the narrow pathway the spheres on the north end of the wall started moving, forming into dangerous looking cannons. They both fired at her and unfortunately Glitz got hit, and fell headfirst into the pit. But right before she hit the ground, Glitz strangely found herself at the top of the room, still falling the same way. And then she found herself there again. And again. And again.   "I just keep falliiiiiiiinnngggg!!" she yelled. Thinking quickly, Trickles ran towards her, shot his hook shot up around a beam in the ceiling, swooped in, grabbed Glitz, and swung them both over to land on the northern platform.   "Upon further research, those are cannons in the wall," said Flaar. Boner nodded seriously. Excited by the new portal development, Trickles went to the side of the northern platform, looked at everyone, then launched himself over the edge. He enjoyed the portal-falling for a while, then used his hook shot to pull himself out and back onto the northern platform. While he was having fun, Glitz had done some investigating and found out that on the northern pedestal was the symbol of rushes in a pond.   Not wanting to be left out, Flaar cast Misty Step to teleport himself onto the eastern platform, where he found the symbol of a stag on the pedestal there. Arindorf looked around, but couldn't see any doorways, keys, or anything like that. He went over to the southern platform and pulled the lever there. Suddenly, everyone heard whirring, scuttling noises from the underside of the platform, and three mechanical spiders crawled up and moved to attack, two towards Marcel and Slappa on the central platform, and one toward Arindorf on the southern platform. "Vomit and Blood, to me!" yelled Arindorf.   Everyone leapt into action. Trickles and Glitz swung over to the central platform, then Glitz had terrible luck trying to use her new throwing stars. Slappa cast Magic Missile through the Lute of Chaos. Flaar managed to hit one of the spiders with Chill Touch, and the spell burned into the very soul of the mechanical being, causing it to explode in a shatter of parts. Arindorf held off the spider attacking him until he was able to hit it with the Gauntlets of Shocking, causing it to spark, shiver, then explode in an electrical fury. He then kicked the spider over the side of the platform, causing it to wind up in the falling portal loop.   Despite his best attempts to hold them off with WaveRider and his magical surfboard, Marcel was swarmed by two spiders and got knocked down at one point, thankfully he was able to avoid the worst attacks (including acid stingers and sprays!) and get back up with a little help from his friends' attacks. Finally, Trickles was able to take down the final spider with an expertly placed stab from his rapier. As it pierced through the automaton's metal hide, it exploded in a fiery shower of sparks.

The Short Version:

Vomit & Blood fought with Cillian & Jillian deThae for a very short while before the two of them teleported out of there faster than you could say "YEET." The party then searched for a way out of the room they were in, finding only strange symbols on stone pedestals and a few mechanical spiders they had to fight their way through.
