Griffin

A hybrid beast that appears to be the large cross of an eagle and a lion. They are agile flyers and sky magic users and are physically strong as well. These traits combined allows them to easily carry object equal to their weigh into the skies. Combine with their sharp senses griffins are excellent hunters and know for their fierce fighter abilities.   In fact, many warrior look to tame griffins as flying steeds. A full grown griffin can nimbly carry an armored humans and are aggressive enough to fearlessly fly into battle.They are famously used as the steed of the guard of the Summedian side of Endbridge , know as the Skylions.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Horse sized creature with feathered wings, the head and taloned front limbs like an eagle. They have a tail, hind legs, and roar of a lion. Their coloration varies from golden brown to light silver.

Genetics and Reproduction

Griffin reach maturity around 2-3 years of age which is when they will leave the nest. I search of a mate. They are known to mate for life and build their nest either in caves, cliffsides, ore underground dens. Females will lay 2-4 eggs that they will raise to maturity before laying another clutch.

Growth Rate & Stages

Youngling

The first 2-3 years of a griffin's life when they still live in the nest of their parents. THis is when they learn survival skills from their parents such as hunting, nest building and flight. Once they they are sexually mature youngling will leave the nest to search for a mate

Adult

Beginning when they leave the nest, adult griffins move out in search of a mate and home territory. Once they find a mate they will build a nest in preparation for their first clutch of eggs. This is when are most agile

Elder

Around the age of 10 Griffins began to focus less on raising children and more on maintaining their territory. During this life stage griffins are slower and less agile, but more bulky and physically strong.

Ecology and Habitats

Griffins thrive in open area environment where they can freely move from land to air. Thus they thrive in the mountains and grasslands. In the maintain they make their nest in caves and cliffsides. On the grasslands they dig out under ground dens.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Carnivores that are capable of stalking, chasing, or surprising their prey by land or by sky. They physical strength help them to capture prey which they will either use beak to snap their prey neck or talons to slit the throat or other vulnerable areas.

Biological Cycle

Griffins do not change much between seasons. They only change their food source based on what is available.

Griffin usually live in pairs, or small family units while they are raising young. Griffins that cross into each other territory typically turn into violent encounters.

Domestication

Wild born griffins are hard to tame without wild magic due to their aggressive and territorial nature . However when exposed to humans at a young age came be easily domesticated to be become flying steeds. If fact some human communities, such as the Skylions of Endbridge raise populations of Rocs from a young age

  • Griffin feathers can be used in magic manipulations involving sky magic.They also cam be used as a writing instrument along with ink or to carve runes. Some even use Roc feather as a decorative element.
  • Due to their size and ability to fly with additional weight griffins can be trained to be flying steeds .
  • Their connection to sky magic makes them good sky familiars as well. When bonded correctly they can be fierce fighters.

Rocs have great hunting instincts and fighting skills, But do not appear to have a higher sense of intelligence

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Griffin are famous for their excellent eyesight. But their sense of hearing ans smell are sharp as well. Although their sense of touch is weak . Thus they have a dulled sense of pain, a great trait for a aggressive fighting steed. They have a connection to sky magic that assist in their agile flying ability, but are not known to be capable of crafting higher forms of magic manipulations.
