Rituals

Rituals are the most complex form of magic manipulations. Essentially Rituals are combining various forms of magic and types of magic manipulation. Thus the caster will have to have a wider breadth of knowledge/skills or have multiple caster to compensate. Also the amount of magic needed to enact rituals typically require various forms of magic Sources. This amount of preparation also means that rituals tend to take the longest to enact and maintain, Also due to their powerful nature rituals are the magic manipulation most likely to lose control or to have undesired effects.

Ritual Requirements

Anyone can be part of a ritual, However most rituals are complex and have a couple of requirements in order to be activated, and even more forethought to get the desired effect. For a Ritual to Work it requires the following:
  • Source: As most rituals require a large amount of magic, their source is the first barrier when preparing a ritual. Casters need to make sure their source can collect enough magic at the desired time of the ritual. This also refers to the types of magic needed. Thus many rituals will use multiple sources for the final ritual
  • Preparation: This is the acquisition of the required elements for a ritual. This could be for collecting physical magic items or storing magic. Preparation can also be used to create the runes. leylines and diagrams, used to direct magic at time of rituals
  • Site: This is the location of the ritual. It also refers to defining the target for the effect of the ritual. Essentially the site is the area that the magic of a ritual will take effect.Sometimes the site itself is crucial to the activations of a ritual
  • Time: Due to complexity and power most rituals take a decent amount of time to prepare and to gather the magic needed before the ritual is activated. Casters typically try to define when a ritual will be activated. Commonly it is when enough magic is gathered. However it can be linked to external events (such as sunset, eclipse, rising tide) that can jumpstart ritual regardless of magic collection
  • Competentent Casters: First of the casters need to have access to the magic types needed. Still, they need the magic control to maintain the ritual activation. Otherwise they may lack the control to direct the magic needed to start a ritual. Even more dangerously, the casters can lose control during the casting and get undesired effect, or can turn into martyrs.

Utility

There are 3 typical situation in which rituals are used for:
  • Large Magic Requirements: Often rituals are used in situations that require a massive amount of magic. Rituals let casters combine the effect of various magic manipulations, types and sources at the same time. This would include rituals with a large amount of targets, large effect area, or mulitutes of desired effects.
  • Extremely Precise Effect: Rituals are also used to perform magic manipulations with very specific effects and/or targets. In this case the various components are essentially narrowing exactly how magic works. This would include rituals such as Situational activations, blood linked manipulations, or transferable manipulations.
  • Long Duration Manipulations: Manipulations that are expected to last a long time will require either a lot of magic, or a powerful bond to a source. Plus the protection for the bond to the magic source. Ritual components provided a way for manipulation to be maintained. This would include rituals such as bloodline curses/blessings. hoarding manipulations or protective barriers.

Any one can participate, but if requirements arent met a ritual may not activate
Complexity
Extremly advance, these manipulations have the most compents in order to be anacted
Discovery
Rituals have been progressively delvoped overtime as they are just a combination of other lesser magic manipulations
