Crystal

History & Usage

Everyday use

Stenza have devised a means to use the perfect atomic latticework of crystal as a basis for all sorts of complex circuitry for use as part of larger computer systems and, ultimately, independently of anything else. They have been used in the computers of star ships, inside Infantry Drones, and for Data Chips; but their most common use is as personal communication devices or personal computers. They can be used to access the database which is a replica of and enhancement to the Collective Knowledge and enable Stenza, civilian and military, to reach each other across the stars through the use of Subspace.   Crystal sheets of varying sizes also have a use. Large ones often form the walls of stasis chambers, while small, thin sheets can be used to fletch arrows. Sheets can also be used to panel walls or fashion windows, and a sturdy reinforced glass is most commonly used in spacecraft, such as for the Observation Deck, however they must be rigorously tested to ensure they stand up to the harsh environments of space.

Environmental Impact

The mining of crystal is associated with a host of environmental hazards, including the problem of disposing of the waste and potential disturbing of the precarious and poorly understood Ice Flats Substance. Many of these potential hazards are mitigated by the fact that all mining is done in the Frozen Wastes far away from the rest of civilization, others are mitigated by the influence of the Protectors of Life enforcing the regulations which govern mining as a profession and doing the hard work of consequence management.   While crystals can be found offworld, and those can be used for everything Mudeweian crystal is used for, it is believed that the best quality comes either from Mudewei itself or grown in a lab based on Mudeweian samples.

Imaging going to use your bow and cutting yourself on the crystal fletching of your arrow. How embarrassing. :D I love all the different uses for crystal, especially the technological ones.

LOL! Well, everyone's probably cut their hands or cheeks on something :D   This bit of leeway is actually a lot of fun, playing around with alien technology and suchlike. Related articles are gonna come out soon about holographic screens, data chips, and so on.
