Race Coordinator
An event on the order of the Rally of the Twelve Galaxies needs to be organized by someone. Enter the Race Coordinator. Part event planner, part logistician, part diplomat, a race coordinator is responsible for getting all the right resources in all the right places to get a race of any magnitude off the ground. The most expansive races tend to have the most famous, and wealthiest, coordinators, and the most well-known is Ilin, who was responsible for the aforementioned Rally. The Rally concluded its run in 2499, ahead of news that within The Nine Systems, races of that nature would be made illegal as of the start of 2500.
The common consensus is that "bread and circuses" can only paper over so much, and many believe this is also the opinion of the Stenza government. Some who saw the cancellation of races as a bad omen have fled their planets in case matters get worse. Others with the opposite view are talking about how everything will improve dramatically from this point forward. Although no one can say yet who will succeed T'zu-Crae, bets are being placed and known political views are being analyzed.
As for the races themselves, however, Ilin may have gotten out of the game, but others are still very much in. "Underground" races across many terrains and planets are still being organized, and advertised through word of mouth instead of by official channels. The prizes are not as extravagant as Ilin had on offer, but this does not prevent hundreds of competitors from entering each, pursuing bragging rights or cash or a career with a smuggling ring or spy network. So far, the cover of media hype surrounding the coming change in leadership has provided excellent cover for these specific coordinators.

Heh considering how dangerous the rally sounded, I'm not surprised it was made illegal. Of course there's underground (probably not literally?) races now, though.

Heinously dangerous, wildly entertaining, not going away any time soon.
