Cantyir

The cantyir is the elected leader of the Aethelean Council. They represent the interests of the aethelean elves of southeastern Mundus Major.

The following nations fall under the council's jurisdiction:

Duiche of Belesath

Duiche of Isthas

Kalor Protectorate

Duiche of Selha

Each of these realms contributes a handful of representatives for the council. Out of these councillors, the cantyir is elected by the whole of the council. The voting is traditionally held on Mount Concord, where the aetheleans have gathered since time immemorial to settle their grievances and forge bonds for future co-operation.
A cantyir's term lasts for 20 years. However, if the council may issue a vote of confidence if they believe the cantyir acting in the interests of an individual realm over the interests of the collective, and remove the cantyir from office.

Responsibilites

In most matters these small nations are wholly independent, but the council and its leader have long been responsible for handling foreign diplomacy and defense of the realms collectively. They do not however meddle in matters of trade.
When there is strife between the realms, the cantyir is expected to quickly take part as an independent mediator. This is considered a drastic measure, as such matters are usually resolved in the annual meeting on Mount Concord.
