Session IV: Exploring Ban Grond Report

General Summary

The adventurers started their day by discussing what to do about Zulk's offer. They decided to accept it, although they would go back to Captain Lennard Rye to report on progress. Balin wanted to buy a shield and as such the adventurers went to the Craftsmen's Quarters.

The Afternoon

At the Craftsmen's Quarters

Here they were met by a goblin smith merchant with whom they traded. In the back they encountered Yereth, a kobold slave working as a smith for the goblins, who wants to meet Balin after closing when they empty the forge (this creates a large amount of black fog and stink, ensuring the goblins stay clear of the forge for a time). Balin agrees to meet Yereth after closing and the adventurers go to the central market of the district. After telling marvelous stories about Gnel's former possessions, among which his flying carpet which only worked with a word he knew and a silver necklace used to charm goblin women (a.k.a. Gnell's cockring), they sell all their goods for 280 gp.

The Wolf's Den

Next, Oswald and Tristan go to the farms looking to buy a wolf. After some troubling talks with the local salesman that hiccups a lot, they decide on a price of 120 gp for a wolf cub and the magic mushrooms required to quickly grow the wolf. Not sure whether to accept they leave the stables and buy some bacon for dinner.

The Pits

Next, Nalan and Balin decide to go to the fighting pits to see what's up there. After some talking they decide to enter the fights. Drinking and talking a bit with the local bugbears, both are met by Oswald and Tristan. Tristan joins Nalan and Balin in the arena fight while Oswald joins the audience.

Round 1

In round 1 the adventurers are met by two minecrawler drones and a powerful minecrawler warrior. They eventually manage to defeat the crawlers benefiting a lot from Oswald's chronomancy to halt a Critical Hit from occurring.

Round 2

In round 2 they are met by two troglodyte warriors and one troglodyte grenadier. The grenadier manages to poison Nalan with his poison grenade and after 12 seconds Oswald enters the fight. Oswald manages to put the grenadier to sleep, after which the party makes short work of him. The crowd goes cheering and the adventurers are met with lots of silver, although chaos erupts around them as goblins jump into the arena to harvest the thrown silver. The adventurers are rewarded with 80 gp and are invited to join Aard for a chat.

Aard's Tent

The adventurers attempt to make some non funny jokes, though Aard remains amused. Aard tasks them with bringing him 'A trophy of a beast of Might' as Aard brags about his accomplishments of felling a hill giant in the northern mountain reach and killing 142 troglodytes. The adventurers accept his challenge.

The Evening

Oswald, Nalan and Tristan decide to go back to their tent to drink a bit there.

The Meet

Balin buys a rapier at the smith's and succeeds in meeting with Yereth unnoticed by the goblin guards. Yereth talks about the goblin resistance and Balin wants to help him, but first consult his fellow adventurers.

A Night of Shannanigans

Oswald and Nalan call it a day early on and go to bed. In the meantime Tristan and Balin get quite drunk and Tristan suggests to steal a wolf cup for Tristan. Although at first Balin is a bit reluctant, the 10 gp Tristan promises in return convince Balin to join him on his quest.

The Stables

Upon nearing the stables Balin decides to distract the nearby goblin guards by giving them booze and throwing dice with them. Tristan in the meantime successfully sneaks towards the stables, manages to quietly open the stable doors, but is unfortunately noticed by the wolves shortly. Although he manages to silently get hold of a wolf cup and get back to the door, in his attempt to open the door silently all goes awry. The goblins notice him, Tristan creates a fog cloud and attempts to escape, while the goblins release the wolves and follow him. Tristan decides to confront one of the goblins and his wolves, is attacked by one of the wolves, and attempts to convince the goblin guard that he found the cup outside and was going to return it. The goblin isn't sure what to do and calls for his friends (the goblins Balin was playing Dice with). One of the goblins passes the hiding Balin and runs for the goblin encampment up ahead. Balin and the other goblin guards catch-up and after attempting one more lie, a fight erupts.
