Session XXXIX : The Lyrium Road part II Report

General Summary

A choice of Faith

With Nalan returning to his senses, the adventurers see a terror demon quickly approaching them. Balin Thornbow uses his Fire Rune to restrain the demon and snipe him from afar. This leaves the demon terribly vulnerable and he is quickly dealt with. Hoping to find the Darkspawn Emissary, Balin uses his newfound Haste, granted by Oswald Fleetfeet, to quickly run to the plateau where the two were conversing. He finds himself ambushed here by two genlock alphas, who bash and smash Balin around. Luckily his friends are in close pursuit and the genlocks are dealt with before Balin is stroken unconscious.
Pursuing the fleeing darkspawn, John Doe makes the rapid decision to go left at a T-crossroad while Balin wishes to go right. They eventually find they've lost track of the darkspawn, but are now in another large cavern. With lyrium spikes in the distance, they approach to investigate to find the lyrium is more dull here, likely with no pure lyrium stream still feeding the crystals. The adventurers decide to call it a day and set up camp. John who takes up first watch and has terrible senses that night, is approached by a black knight on a shadow horse. The knight approaches non-aggressively as the adventurers are woken by John (who apparently now all sleep in armor in spite of the possible consequences for a good night's rest). The knight speaks with them and offers them an accord: he wishes to fight the fear demon, lord of the lyrium road, master of the Spire, and seeks the adventurers' help to do it. In return, he offers support for the battle and what knowledge he can give. Furthermore, he mentions to be a Knight of Blades, servant to the Queen of Blades. Upon hearing the knight is a demon of sorts, Nalan grabs his weapon to strike the knight. Before being able to however, Balin uses his crossbow to disarm Nalan. John silently mentions to the others the knight is not alone, with Blades hiding in the dark. Upon taking it to a vote, the adventurers decide to decline the knight's offered pact. As such, the knight bids them their doom and rushes of with his fiery horse in the dark.
During the next watch, Balin would hear a loud metal crackling noise in the distance, which he perceives to be a blade making its way through the western tunnel. He decides however not to pursue and the remaining rest passes without little hassle. The next morning, the adventurers continue north further into the dark cavern. They find the cavern descending with a larger mount of stalagtites and stalagmites making a platform of sorts. When the adventurers decide to walk up the path to the mount's plateau, they hear the knight in the distance laughing. The knight lights a large boulder and pushes it down the path. The adventurers find themselves in an awkward situation unsure what to do. Balin decides to get off the road, climbing a reiling but also tumbling down the mount. Oswald uses his time magic to freeze the boulder for a short while in time, giving John the possibility to Misty-step past the obstacle. Nalan stands in front of Oswald to shield him from the boulder, as it regains its original velocity. While successful at partially shielding Oswald, both are still hit by the boulder. As the adventurers regain their footing, they see the knight preparing another boulder up top.
