The First Welsh War of Independence, waged by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd , his brother Dafydd ap Gruffudd and his Welsh vassal lords against King Henry III and Edward I (Longshanks) 1282-83
Following a near lifetime of diplomatic to-ing and fro-ing and minor skirmishes, betrayals and embargoes. Llywelyn ap Gruffudd's, Prince of Wales, Lord of Aberffraw and Eagle of Snowdon, hand was forced by his brother Dafydd ap Gruffudd . On Palm Sunday 1282, Dafydd launched a surprise attack on Hawarden Castle and begun a full-scale conflict that would become the first Welsh War of Independence.
