The Shattering of Anchorra
Congratulations
The cataclysmic event several thousand years ago that tore a once sprawling megalopolis asunder, creating the blighted wastes known as the Foglands
The epicentre of this event was in the citadel of Anchorra. Which was a floating palace high in the sky constructed by the seven leaders of this once proud civilization. The group was known as the accord.
The event began with ████, one of the members of the accord, being contacted by an entity from beyond the stars. At first, communication was brief and indecipherable. It was like trying to decipher a pattern from the calls of birds beyond a city wall, or spearfishing on a stormy sea. It was unlikely that anybody but the brilliantly talented members of the Accord would have been capable of even detecting such faint ripples along the fabric of arcana that only the most talented of mages can perceive.
Nonetheless, ████ persisted in his endeavors to decipher the message. At first from a sense of curiosity. What could this being be? Why is it so distant? Why does it seem so hidden from me? For their persistence, ████ was rewarded with answers.
The entity was to be referred to as “Nihil” and nothing else. The entity spoke of other gods, other realms, other worlds. This entity also spoke of knowledge and power, and it promised to share.
Now fueled by a sense of obligation, ████ began to learn from Nihil. Nihil instructed ████ to earn the trust of the rest of the accord through the construction of a mechanism called the tree of Nemos. By infusing small gems with seemingly unrelated enchantments and placing them into “branches” of the mechanism that align them with the leylines of the world. It was possible to ascertain the true forms, locations, and number of all Sovereigns existing within this world.
When the mechanism was finished and the final incantation spoken, the members of the accord gathered before the tree of nemos and saw the true forms and locations of each Sovereign alite in orbs before them. Though this would become the least of their surprise, as 12 orbs were before them. They had only known of 11 sovereigns. It was then that Nihil spoke to them. Wordless, but with unexpected clarity. They had been fooled by the sovereigns and the stars. They had been treated like pawns in a game. Mere fodder for the playground of mighty children. Nihil, the lowly Sovereign of Mortals was sealed away by the stars for fear of their limitless potential. Nihil would teach them how to claim Sovereignty for the prosperity of mortals.
So ████ and the rest of the Accord learned from Nihil of the hall of silence. Another arcane device capable of stripping sovereignty from mortal beings and placing it within a sort of crystaline phylactery. Upon it’s completion, with the use of the Tree of Nemos, the Accord was able to find and lure the Ocean Sovereign, Melusine into the hall under the guise of a series of feasts with random citizens to hear the voices of the Anchorran people.
Under the starlit sky, each member of the accord was to dine with one citizen of Anchorra to hear of their lives and troubles. ████ was given the honor of leading the Ocean Sovereign to the Hall of Silence.
Once there, ████ now fueled by a sense of pride, spoke the incantation and ensnared the Ocean Sovereign.
Outside the Hall of Silence, on the observatory atop the Citadel, the rest of the Accord and the citizens of Anchorra were swept awash in an ocean of dread. As the heavens above them ceded to darkness and the stars were devoured by the void between them before their terrified eyes.
Something was clearly wrong, a mass teleport spell was cast instantaneously. The citizens would have to come as well, no time for picking and choosing.
When they arrived in the hall of silence they were met with the gravity of their fates.
There, levitating in the center of the room was the colorless and still body of the Ocean Sovereign. As a small crack began to form upon her forehead, the cracking grew. With each encroaching fracture ringing out like a snapping neck before finally, a shattering sound rang throughout the entirety of the citadel and world below. Followed by an inuman voice:
“I AM E̶̛̩̜͔͇̥͖̙̥̟̤̹̠̤̪̩̣̱͉͍̦̝̦̐̽͐̈́̍̌͒͒̈̂͆̓̈́̀͐̔̐̿̽N̴̨̧̡̛͎̟͓͍͓͔͕̩̯͕̜͓̘̞̼̣͍̺̗̘̼̭̦̦͍̹͍̙̟͙̜͖͔̹̒̂̍̀̂̉̾̈̊͂̂̈́̀͆͌̄͆͐̃́͌̎͐͘͘͜͝͝ͅͅĀ̵͈̺͓̫̮̣̫͖̙̐͐̋͠ͅI̷̡̡̨̖̰̱̦͓̗̲̬͉̥̠̗̯̘̮̜̰̥̣̺͚̝̯̻̲͍̫̲̤̰̬̳̩͗͜͜͜ͅͅͅṀ̶̧̢͓͎͇͖͖͎̜̩̳̫͑͂̌́̾̀̍͠Ơ̴̢̝̝͇͍̙̯͉̹̙̮͌̈́̀͌̀͑̀̔̐͋͆̿̿̍͑̄̍̃̊̎̍̎͛̆͌̍̈́̍̒͛̽̍͋͗̈́̈́̀͑̐͒͆͒̓͌̀͆̚̚͘̚͜͝͠ͅN̶̢̨̳̳̘̭̰̯̻̝̞̤̣͉͈̱̼̟͎̝͉̫̝̻̥̘͔͖̮̜̰͔̖̖̘̣̲͉͕̟͓͈͖̲̞̳̽̓͛͊͐̎͝ͅ”
With those words, the members of the Accord watched as the citizens around them fell lifelessly to the floor. The food rotted into dust, the plants died and withered, even the air and stone around them (which was never alive to begin)with seemed to decay and die.
And so, the Void Sovereign was welcomed into this world. As the Citadel fell to the ground, the Accord met their end keeping the Void Sovereign from encroaching further into this world. That is, until The Portal to Arixia appeared.
Hey there!! You've found the secret article!! Congratulations! This concludes the Scavenger Hunt for Myriad. I hope you had as much fun reading along as I did making it.
