Tremon, the Ravenous Frost Character in Myriad | World Anvil

Tremon, the Ravenous Frost

Hang three of these Scarlet Embers on your door at night, dearie. They will repel the Ravenous Frost.
— The local medicine woman handing someone a small handful of peppers
When Ylara and her wolves tear through the landscape, trailing behind her pack is the ever hungry and biting Ravenous Frost. A terrifying monstrosity that resembles an over grown, emaciated wolf with horns. Accompanied by his pack of monsters known as the Hungry. The wind carries their howls on it to herald his arrival. He devours the remains of those lost to Ocarina, Ylara, and La'ver. He never hunts those still living, only those who succumb to the ceaseless hunger that ensues when he rears his horrifying face. Many prepare for the long, cold, and dark winter ahead of them. No matter how much you prepare, you'll never be ready for when Tremon comes through your area. Families starve, cows freeze in their barns, and you never can seem to get full. There's always a nagging hunger in the back of your mind. This is known as the Hunger.

There are ways to stave off the Ravenous Frost. Many folktales tell of a pepper that grows in Ashaar, blessed by Tokal himself and his never-ending radiance. These peppers are known as Scarlet Embers. Placing three of these peppers above your door in preparation for Tremon's arrival is said to make your house resistant to the Hunger. Those that do succumb to the Hunger turn on their families. First, the food stores deplete. Then, when the weakest fall to hunger and the biting cold, the Hungry resolve to eat them. Once possessed by the Hunger, the Hungry then become ravenous, grotesque monsters if they are allowed to devour more humanoid flesh. There is currently no way to reverse the curse and therefore the only way to end it is to kill the Hungry. Reasoning with the Hungry is useless. They devour all those that stand between them and any sustinance they can obtain. It never fills them and all food turns to ash in their mouths. Many villages have fallen to those afflicted with the Hunger, the Hungry that devour them then join Tremon and his pack of starving and ravenous wolves.

This is an amazing, spooky and interesting entity where I see so many inspirations. A big one we called winnebago of course, but I got some cool Wild Hunt vibes to from it a little bit, very fun story with some great bits that bring to mind comparisons and contrasts with a handful of interesting and spooky real world stories and entities. This is tastefully done, very fun to read, definitely creepy and spooky, and really well written!
