Genesis Lich

Undeath is not natural. It started when a powerful necromancer decided to cheat death. By committing vile acts they became a lich, a being of both life and death. This creature is known as the first undead being documented, some calling it the Genesis Lich. In order to survive further, they decided to build an army of wretched souls. By intercepting specters making their way to Ultimatum through the astral plane, he brought them back to the material plane to be his servants. This process is known as umbral annexation, and is only used by the Genesis Lich. To annex a soul they must have unfinished business in order to not be drawn back to Ultimatum. Different lives lived and different ambitions make different undead. A creature that drowned may come back as a form of sopping undead. If the Genesis Lich were to be finally sent to Ultimatum, all of their thralls would cease to live in their undeath.
