Lake Auspice

Guiding Tides

Lake Auspice is the largest lake in all of Myrmier, and is equally bordered by the three southernmost countries of Inknotch. It would follow that there would be some border disputes within the lake, however there are none. Lake Auspice harbors a curiosity within its tides, a guiding current that leads all vessels within back to the shore which they came. Although many have tried to overpower, outswim, or soar over, as if by the lake's own will no soul would ever see the secrets within. Efforts to find out what's within the lake was attempted by each of its border holders. The nation to tame the waves could have invaluable gains from the resources latent in it. Even the wildlife within the lake seems to mock outsiders, being uncatchable by nets and too nimble for spears. Frustrated, all adjacent nations have wholeheartedly given up on the search for a path through the lake.

A Slumbering Society

The intelligent currents of this lake are not impenetrable, far from it. A civilization of merfolk have mastered the rhythm of the waters. Listening to the ebb and flow, waxing and waning, a special technique was invented, bound to only a group known as the Wave Whisperers. Using their unique skills, they found their way to the depths. A safe haven from the harsh world outside, a place where none who breathe could find you. Normally a land without laws or regulations would quickly devolve into anarchy, but the discipline required for wave whispering created a peaceful society beneath the surface. None of the chiefs of the state have deemed it a worthwhile investment to interact with the rest of the world, especially considering their sheltered presence would be given up. To this day, this society is unknown to the public.
