Wide Awake
A flowing, bright blue liquid. Originating from Colth, this drink is necessary for many to function early in the morning. In its original form it was a smooth earthy drink with a strong kick and lasting effects similar to other stimulants. Popscotch was originally made with the lashes of an
Omniquill. Addiction would quickly set in with the original brew, and some would even spike it with alcohol for a stronger sucker punch to the senses. Early Colth colonists would sip some Popscotch every day before going to their jobs as fishermen and dock workers. Even in current day old folks still have cravings for the high carried in the fluorescent drink.
Tool of Control
Abuse of the drink was normalized in early Colth and violent withdrawals almost certainly fueled some of the rage associated in the bloody rebellion that followed its cutoff. After the Colth Revolution, trading of Omniquills and their materials was outlawed as their addictive effects were a major factor in the suppression of rebellion in Ripslakse colonies. Nowadays, the drink is still known as Popscotch, but has lost its iridescent luster that is associated with Omniquills. The lashes are now subsituted with ground flower petals for color floral notes and tea leaves for flavor. Despite its banned status, a high demand for the shimmering beverage rose. Illegal speakeasies began to pop up across the newly formed country. Crackdowns on these speakeasies by the central Colth government have made the streets of Northwind crawling with officers searching for these underground institutions of indulgence. Efforts to stop the spread of these bars has been unsuccessful so far.
