Causes

Magical backlash can happen in any multitude of ways, all of which center around magic. It can be as simple as a spell gone wrong to a mishap while experimenting. Creating spells or new potions can result in a backlash as well if one is not careful. Breaking a magical item, or even taking a bath in a magic pool.

Symptoms

Magical backlash results in wilde magic, which varies the symptoms from person to person. All their magic cast from then on will have a possibility of casting wilde magic instead.

Treatment

There is no known cure for Magical Backlash making it a permanent condition.

Affected Groups

Anyone can be contaminated and it is far easier to overwhelm a common, non magical being, with magic, then it is someone well versed. Despite this, generally it is mages that end up with magical backlash of one kind or another. Wizards, Sorcerers, Druids, Warlocks, ect.

Prevention

There is no actual way to prevent it, although many wizards across atone believe that if they wear certain stones or amulets they will absorb the excess magic and protect them from the possibility.

Cultural Reception

People afflicted by magical backlash are sought by the Mage Collection. When they get a hold of them they are considered little more then animals, just another creature they can experiment on.
