Session 6 - Into the Hole
22 Thaumont 1010
General Summary
Having defeated Durnn, the party rests.
Leofingol has barely drifted off when he finds himself face to face with Elezar, presumably in a dream, and was gifted a book. The dream was extremely realistic, and when he woke he was steaming, and holding the book that was gifted to him. This book carries new secrets, and enabled him to summon a familiar he names Flametalon, who bears a resemblance to Elezar (but far smaller, and less powerful). Additional spells are now known through this Tome, and more will be seen later.
Other party members have gained some new abilities through various means, and the overall party appears to have much greater capability.
The party consults with the goblin Shaman, on what they should expect when they go down to the grove. She gives them a goblin phrase to say to any goblins they encounter to encourage them to return to the goblin town, avoiding unnecessary fighting.
The party descends the vines to the lower level of the Citadel, the grove, where they encountered some skeletons, which they quickly dealt with. These skeletons appeared to be farming various molds and fungus growing about the cavern.
In spider form, Elincia heads off on her own to another passage, and encounters a Bugbear trailed by some giant rats, like faithful hounds. The Bugbear knocks her down from the ceiling and she is forced back into her human form. The party is able to take out these enemies relatively quickly. Leofingol explores down a very narrow passage a little ways, but sees nothing of interest, and returns to safety - this trip seemed unwise and heart raced as he moved farther away, as no other party members would fit down the passage.
Heading south the party found a rupture in the passage, seemingly from an earthquake or similar even. This rift had circular holes all about the floor, all of which were empty and seemingly bottomless - except for one from which a bright red glow emanated and a worm-like creature could be seen curled up in it. The party decided to leave this alone for now.
The broken passage led to a room with a metal dragon statue in it, holding an empty tray. Finding nothing useful here the party went back and continued the exploration of this level.
They moved systematically through this floor, finding several goblins busily working whom they send back up to the town without a need for a fight. The party continued their search of the area, and eventually found a statue of a dragon with glowing eyes, and a circle with runes before it on the floor.
They find a way to activate the statue, and it gave a bonus to charisma to Stavos. While searching the room, Belfur was attacked by a shadow, and took significant damage from it, including a strength reduction. The party, after getting over its surprise, is able to deal with the shadow, inflicting extra damage through radiant spells, which appeared to have greater effectiveness against the creature.
The party, all a bit dinged up from the combat, decides to take a short rest, and this ended the session. No significant loot was found during this session.
