Mageburrow
Travel across the lands of Mythari can, at times, be tedious and time consuming.
Those beings that have access to the arcane arts however, are not as restricted as most of the common inhabitants of the cities and towns that dot the various continents of the world.
Hidden by complex magics, Mageburrows are conduits that allow those that know their locations to access and use them to travel great distances in the fraction of the time it would to travel by land or sea.
Any spellcaster of 5th level or above can seek out these carefully hidden portals and gateways, and if they know the correct combination of Power Words, can open them to reveal a ever shifting cone or tunnel that appears to be me made of pure maelstrom, a corkscrew hallway of living storm and lightning.
Mageburrows - The Paths of Madness
"Stepping into the burrow, Jherrin was buffeted by howling magewind, his hair and clothes flapping wildly this way and that as the very forces of creation tried to pull him off his feet and send him spinning into an endless void of the mad storm..."
Whenever a mage, sorcerer or warlock attempts to open a Mageburrow, there is always a chance that the unruly and chaotic energies that form the strange conduits between spaces will overwhelm them and pull them tumbling and screaming out into the limitless void to spin forevermore among the gyre of space time.
Those who maintain the grip on their sanity however, can walk the swirling and ever-changing tunnels of light and energy, crossing great distances in but a heartbeat of time. The longer spent in the burrow, the greater the distance traveled.
The longest journey on record is that of *** who, according to legend, spent a full four days traversing the space between spaces and move he and others half way around the world - a journey that would normally take six months.
