Session 17
General Summary
The session began with the party heading to Tantalizing Tentacle Treasures in order to spend some of their earnings from their trip into the woods. While there, the party bought several items and learned how Shiro identifies magic items; he doesn't. He instead pays the library to do so for him.
Once they were done shopping at TTT, the group headed to the Common Expanse mainly to visit Diamond in the Rough so they could sell the gemstones they found. In total, they made over 10,000GP from selling them. They used a small part of this profit to purchase a ruby of the war mage for Kit.
While they were at the Common Expanse, they also paid Giggler a visit with the intention of obtaining information on the Continent from precolonial times. They were unsuccessful.
The group then made their way to the library, where Kit had his Onyx scepter identified. Unfortunately, the results were negative.
While at the library, Wagglefern informed the party that the rat problem was getting worse; the rats were getting bigger, stronger, and greater in number and no one seems to have an answer as to why.
Once the party had finished running their errands, they returned to Tremont Manor. There they made the decision to help Vaision confront Sparrow about whether or not she had something to do with his father's death. After a long discussion, the party used the Head Key on Sparrow.
Her mind resembled a large server room that expanded to inifinity in any given direction with a single interface approximately 300ft. from the entry point. The hum of hard drives spinning up accompanied by seemingly random beeps and boops was quite foreign to the party. Despite this, Xaverie managed to cleverly decipher the correct means of interfacing with the system and was able to pull up Sparrow's memories from a delineated list in date order.
The party selected to view the oldest memory in her databank. When they did so, everything around them vanished in a waves of pixels and was replaced with the contents of the memory (much like VR), which consisted of Sparrow being purchased by her husband, Lord Hesiodos Metaxas. They then viewed the one that shared the date of Vaision's father's death after briefly noting that there was a time gap following this one. What they saw was surprising; Sparrow did meet with his father, Lord Claudius Tremore, on the day of his death. She was ordered by her husband to do anything Lord Tremore said. This did not stop her from suggesting alternate courses of action, leading Lord Tremore to lose his patience. The memory ended with a fiery snake emerging from Sparrow's chest and engulfing Lord Tremore. To Vaision, this seemed to line up; his father was pronounced dead on that day due to severe burns.
As the party was contemptating what they had just seen, Claudia noticed that the hard drives that had been humming along were suddenly beginning to spin up, louder and louder. The heat in the room began to rise. He alerted the party and they began making their way out, but not before the heat had turned into flames that formed a fire elemental that was now chasing them. In a panic, Kit used Message to catch Sparrow's attention. She remained outside her mindscape with Damian and was examining her own body. She was so focused on what she was doing that the sudden shouting in her mind startled her, causing her to knock over her body and the Head Key falling out. The party was trapped in Sparrow's mind with the intense, roaring flames of a Huge fire elemental.
It was a struggle through and through, with both Kit and Claudia beind downed twice and nearly dying to the fire. During this time, Damian managed to get the Head Key back into Sparrow, thus allowing the party to escape... along with the fire elemental, which they shortly finished off after that.
Exhausted, Claudia, Kit, and Vaision passed out on the basement floor.
