Session 22
General Summary
In this session, the party finished off the governor and dealt with the aftermath of the intense battle. They searched the remaining, undiscovered rooms in the Serene Stone's basement and acquired some loot. Of the things they found was a manilla folder containing classified information regarding a secret project: Project Spindle. The details within the document revealed that the governor had a deal with Mother Krakenshine to allow the govenor's DIE Agents to abduct children from the orphanage in exchange for a cover up of her neglectful management of the Orphanage.
With this information, they then took the 9 children they had rescued to the Police Station instead of the Orphanage and had a conversation with Jaylen Ross about the prospects of getting a License to Kill for Mother Krakenshine. He told the party that they would have to convince Law Master Clodaugh Doyle that one was needed and informed them that the last time a License to Kill was issued was over 50 years ago.
Considering the time was 4AM, the party returned to Tremont Manor and went to sleep. Not long after they laid down, they heard a loud noise coming from the first floor. Kit went to investigate and found a goblin rooting around in the Servants' Quarters. The goblin claimed to be a friend of theirs named Gobber whom they supposedly met at the pub across town named New Stynruz. The party had not caught on, so he flashed a metal ring (which Xavirie recognized as Tremont's magical keyring) that he called a friendship bracelet and said that he took their advice; that being, "the Key to success was finding a way to start fresh". At this point, most of the party realized it was Tremont, so they agreed to go with him to the pub.
Tremont then used the Anywhere Key to take the party to their home in New Stynruz. Once there, he used the Face Key to change back to his original form and he caught them up to speed on the fact that he had been hiding from the governor. The party informed him that they had killed the governor and so he agreed to return with them to Tremont Manor where they finished their Long Rest, during which the party attuned to the new treasures they had found under the Serene Stone; Damian to Bracers of Defense and Ring of Mind Shielding he had taken off of the governor's person, Kit to a Dagger of Warning, Vaision to a Ring of Evasion, and Xavirie to an Amulet of Proof Against Detection and Location
In the morning, Damian didn't seem to be acting like himself; he was strangely intelligent and, when Vaision attempted to cast Hold Person on him, he cast Counterspell. After a brief interrogation, the party reluctantly went on with the day without further questioning. Their suspicion of him had not faded, however.
The party then headed over to the Supreme Court of Clonio and attempted to enter, but were refused by the guards who stated, "The court is currently in session, so unless you come back with the Police Chief himself, you aren't allowed to go in." Damian then argued with the guards for a few minutes before resolving to go and get the Police Chief.
The party made their way over to the Clonio Police Station to get Jayeln Ross. Displeased with the music on the radio, Damian then opted to play some of the Souldiers' latest hits on his lute. When they arrived, Jaylen was not busy, so they got an immediate audience with him. They explained the situation and he agreed to go with them to get things settled. They then returned to the Clonio Supreme Court. The guards were speechless as they did not expect the party to return with the Police Chief. Jaylen, followed by the party, entered the court without contest.
Immediately upon seeing Jaylen enter, the Law Master ordered everyone in the current court case out of the room. The party then made their case. In the end, they did not get a formal License to Kill, but they did get a warrent for the arrest of Mother Krakenshine that would expire in 30 days if they choose not to execute it. She also informed them that they would not be charged with murder if they killed her in self defense followed by a wink.
The party exited the court, contemplating what to do next.
