Session 30
General Summary
A Surprise Visit
This session began with the party's long rest following the battle atop Mount Malice being interrupted by a visit from none other than the governor. He placed an arcane lock on the only exit and was weilding a Staff of the Magi bearing Vaision's family crest. His arrogance got the better of him, however, as Vaision managed to trick him into setting the staff down to pour him a cup of tea. Using his Mage Hand, Vaision snagged the staff, marking the start of combat.
It was a long, draining battle that ultimately ended in the party reigning victorious over the governor at the expense of ~90% of their remaining collective energy.
As the party began inspecting the governor's body, Gurat entered through the door that had been previously locked with an arcane lock and Chirp and Claudia both emerged from their bedroom (the governor had cast Silence to prevent them from hearing and subsequently joining the battle).
An Imposter Among Us
Now out of immediate danger, Xaverie had a burning question that she couldn't help but ask the sage: "How did the governor find us here?". The sage opened his grimoire and began scanning the pages, before uttering the words, "There is a betrayer in our midst; perhaps even an imposter among us". Xaverie then bagan questioning Gurat for his absence during the battle before turning her attention back to the raven, who was picking at the governor's corpse.
To protect the raven, Gurat wildshaped into an identical looking raven. This had only limited success as Vaision simply blasted them both with Eldritch Blast until Gurat transformed back into his normal form. Seeing how many hits the raven took, the party was more suspicious of it than ever. They decided they were done dealing with the uncertainty and opted to kill it.
Vaision began blasting away once again and the raven began making attempts to bait and dodge the attacks. All the while, he was gliding from person to person; he landed on Kit, then Xavirie, then the end of Damian's sword. As it was doing this, the raven was snatching Tremont's Keys off of them. By the time they noticed, he had stolen the Head Key, the Mailbox Key, and the Matchstick Key and was making his escape.
The session ended with the sage hitting the raven with Moonbeam, causing him to drop his avian disguise; it was a powerful fiend, presumably Tremont's father.
