The Great King Avalon Deschain
Born to parents who names have been lost to the histories, all that is known is that they were of humble origins. The only thing historians know for sure is that it happened in the year 950 on the 5th Esti'iss in the city of Stormbreaker. From an early age Avalon displayed a very ambitious personality, being more focused than his brother's and sister in whatever his current obsession was. Young Avalon displayed an unsettling focus towards whatever his current fixation was, seeming more like a driven adult than ever a child. The age of 11 was a transformative year, having mastered his third musical instrument he had gotten bored of the arts and sought out a new target for his attention. While wondering aimlessly through the streets which was troubling experience for the young boy who was unused to not having so much free time, he stumbles upon the practice grounds for the local garrison, there he became enamored with the beautiful dance that was sword play. He would come every day to study the moves of the troops taking note of which were more skilled and which were not. It was here that one of the biggest moments in the last 800 years happened. Avalon was introduced to a young captain named Gareth who noticed something special about the boy from the start and took him under his wing. While no one knew it yet, this would change the face of the world and shake the foundations of every city.
Avalon had moved out of his parents house by age 13 and was staying with a different friend each night sleeping on floors. By age 14 with the help of Gareth he had lied his way into the army as a private. The next few years of his life were some of the most frustrating while he had to wait on others to ascend, he spent his days drilling with his squad mates, and his nights training long after everyone went to bed. Everything about this ordered society was a draw to him, he had a schedule and no siblings to distract him every night he was the last out of the practice yard practicing the sword; when not found there he was at the library studying military tactics. By the time he would have been allowed to legally join the military he had already been promoted twice. All through this time his mentor and friend Gareth had been helping him along the way they both had grown quite close despite the 9 years between them; they had become the closest of friends. Avalon would later say that he only had one brother and that brother is Gareth.
By age 19 Avalon, now a captain under lieutenant Major Gareth was sent out with full company to investigate rumors of a large group of armored humanoid like creature in the forests to the north of the city. The resulting battle was inconsequential but the young woman that they recovered from the prisoners of the orcs was not. This young woman named Alina Stillgaze instantly interesting Avalon, just one year his junior she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Over the subsequent months they would both learn a lot more about each other as they grew closer.
The young girl had carved a life of sorts out in captivity, acting as a seer of sorts for the orc Chieftan. For her, Avalon was something out of a book, the warrior poet who felt as comfortable with a great sword in his hand as he did with a Violin the intensity with which he lives his life endeared him to her and the two instantly felt a connection they would share for the rest of their lives. When she stated the visions had returned one year later, and they only had one message: Unity. She spoke in great detail how she saw Avalon's future and he was destined for greatness, but to achieve that he must unify all the nations against a coming evil. Naturally this unsettled Gareth who was worried for his friend who was buying into these but trusting that his friend would make the right decisions if the time ever came, he remained silent. This silence lasted for 3 years and 2 small scale wars with the orcs and elves that were in the woods, the first a result from their initial encounter that introduced Alina to their lives, the second over the elves taking issue with the humans encroaching on their forests. The year 973 has Gareth as the youngest general in Stormbreaker history after earning the reputation of the greatest tactician in the army and a fierce combatant. The only other soldier with a reputation that would come close to matching up to the great Gareth Brin was that of his second in command Avalon, widely regarded as one of, if not the best swords men and tactician in his own right in all of Mythrailia. But this also brought 3 years of whispers into the now 23 year old Avalon's heart of greatness and the need of the many. While still uneasy about the visions of a young girl Gareth had seen Avalon in action and knew that this young man was destined for a life of ordering others to do things, he was destined to do something. Which is how the events of the 15th of Thorom came to be remembered as the true birth of "The Great King" as he, flanked by Gareth and many of his officers entered the Royal palace. Here is where the histories tell two very different stories, opponents of Avalon state that he murdered and killed the royal family to the last drop of blood sometimes taking days to kill them. Those who remember him fondly write of how he made things as peaceful as possible even giving the old king an estate to look over in the country.to be continued.....
