Castle Dwarves

We build our own mountains

CobaltDM - June 18, 2022
Castle Dwarves, sometimes called Shield Dwarves, were the last subrace created by Cadros. When the God-King grew ambitious and had plans of expansion, he knew that his kingdom would need infrastructure and defendable fortresses. He sent out the Castle Dwarves into lands he intended to expand into and had them construct grand castles, sturdy roads, impenetrable walls, and unstoppable siege engines that would allow him to conquer uncontested. In addition to stonemasons and engineers, Castle Dwarves make for formidable warriors, scouts, and cartographers.

Appearance

Castle Dwarves are the biggest and the burliest of any Dwarves. They generally stand between 5 and 5 and a half feet tall and weigh upwards of 180 pounds. They normally have weathered, but somewhat pink tinted skin and hair colors ranging from black to brown to red. Their faces have rounded features like their Mountain Dwarf cousins, and they often have braided beards. Married Castle Dwarves have large stone rings braided into their beard, and often have other adornments to represent their children.

Coveted Builders

Castle Dwarves take great pride in their constructions, and have continued building as contractors past The Silence. Natalia, the Warrior Queen of Atheles, has hired them on numerous occasions to fortify her defenses and infrastructure. Most of them do not hold allegiances to the new king and have spread out across Mytkora, readily finding work wherever they go. Some have deviated to become smiths, and others have applied their keen eye towards carpentry, surveying, and cartography. Others have used their size and strength to become mercenaries and adventurers.

Family First

Castle Dwarves value their family above all else. They proudly display rings, charms, and other jewelry in their clothes, hair, and beards to represent their spouses and children. When a family settles in an area, they will often remain there for decades. They build large, multi-generational houses with several lower-level floors, and will expand the house if necessary so that they may all remain together. Castle Dwarves often have a matriarchal family structure, with the eldest female being the head of household.
