"There were a few where I was raised. Half-blood Elves are almost as rare as the Elves themselves, but they've begun to spread in recent years. They do not have the same alien appearance as their Elven half, instead taking on a much more human appearance--minus the pointed ears and sharp features. From my experience, they are a cunning race that has had to adapt to a situation in which they've never quite fit. It is the struggle of all half-bloods, but many have found ways to use that underestimation to their advantage." - An excerpt from "The Travels of Hafrick Moriarty"
Half-Elves are the result of interracial relationships between Elves and Humans. There is another variant, the Half-Orc, but in that case the Orcish blood dominates the Elven. In the case of Elf and Human bloods, the Elven shows dominance. Half-Elves are often looked upon awkwardly by the rest of society. They have the touch of mysticism that all those with Elven blood do, but they are also so human in appearance that oftentimes one is not sure how to behave around one. This allows many of the more charismatic Half-Elves to seize control of a situation or a conversation and steer it towards their benefit.
Not Quite Human, Not Quite Elf
Half-Elves are similar to humans in height, generally measuring between 5 and just over 6 feet tall. They have Elven builds, however, and average around 140 pounds. They grow up quickly, much like humans, but their Elven blood allows them to live around twice the length of a normal human lifespan. Many Half-Elves have predominantly human faces, but will show their Elven origins in their skin, eyes, and hair. For example, one born of a High Elf and a human might have bronze skin and blonde hair.
Home Is Where the Heart Is
Half-Elves tend to stay with their families, where they are comfortable and accepted. Communities gradually grow used to them. Those that travel, however, must develop a quick wit and strong conversational skills in order to quickly blend in. Because Elves can be found anywhere in Mytkora, Half-Elves are also spread across the globe. They tend to thrive best in the big cities and can be found doing any and all sorts of professions.
Making Their Mark
Half-Elves often do not have a strong connection with any of the deities. They feel separate from the others in the sense that they weren't
created, but instead came naturally as a result of the other creations. Thus, when The Silence came, many were unaffected. They prefer instead to carve their own path and build their own reputation, which has led many Half-Elves to success over the centuries.
