"Dear reader, never have I felt more afraid than while gathering stories for this chapter. My journey took me to the island of Khal where the reclusive, cannibalistic Lizardfolk had their largest population. Truly, I was advised to simply not include them in my writing, but my quest would not be left incomplete out of fear for my own safety. What I found was unexpected. The Lizardfolk were welcoming and friendly, and only a few seemed interested in having me 'over' for dinner. Their leader, the Great Khan Sechput, welcomed me to his fire and told me of his people. They were wise and connected to the land, but outsider fear limited their ability to explore the world beyond their islands." - An excerpt from "The Travels of Hafrick Moriarty"
Lizardfolk were created by Kebis shortly after Tortles. They are the sixth of the bestial races created by Kebis to inhabit Tekoril and the surrounding lands. They had a rocky beginning, as they were feral beings that would hunt and kill other humanoids. Despite this reputation forming hundreds of years ago and no longer being accurate, the stink of their crimes long ago follows them wherever they find themselves. They can be found on many of the swampy, central islands of Mytkora.
The Ruthless Lizard
Lizardfolk are of about the same height and weight as Humans. Their skin is covered in thick scales that provides them with ample protection from the predators of the swamps. They have webbed feet and hands as well as long tails that aid them in swimming. Their mouths are filled with rows of jagged, sharp teeth that rip apart meat for their carnivorous diets. They can come in a variety of skin tones, but most common are dark shades of green and gray.
Crimes of the Ancestors
Lizardfolk began as cannibalistic hunters that found glory in the killing of other sapient species. They were punished by Kebis and Tassah for these sins, and banished from Tekoril forever. No Lizardfolk has set foot on the sands of Tekoril's beaches in hundreds of years. In their isolation, however, Lizardfolk became in touch with Kebis' teachings and his demands. They rejected the
Old Ways and embraced a new era of their existence.
Proficient Hunters
Lizardfolk turned their attentions towards non-sapient prey, and now revel in the hunting of large predators like crocodiles or sharks. They prefer fighting and hunting with their bare hands and teeth and will often wear trophies from their most impressive kills. Some Lizardfolk have escaped the islands and traveled to Nassa or Isatis, but they are universally scorned and tend to live their lives in isolation.
