Mountain Dwarves

Mountain Dwarves were the most closely associated with Cadros and were widely considered to be the God-King's favorite. They lived within the hearts and around the bases of grand mountains in Atheles and Isatis. Most of the population has stayed where they were created, representing the most faithful in their King's return.

Appearance

Mountain Dwarves are stout humanoids, like all dwarves, and tend to be around 4 to 5 feet tall and average around 150 pounds. They have a range of grayscale skin tones, from pale to a dark, stony complexion. They tend to have well-kept hair and beards of black or dark brown that slowly turns white as they age. Their features are typical for Dwarves, with bushy eyebrows and large noses placed on round faces.

Haughty and Proud

Many Mountain Dwarves believe themselves to be the superior subrace and Cadros' chosen people. They treat the other humanoid races with disinterest and suspicion. Those that have integrated with the rest of society often have an aggressive, competitive approach to their businesses and trading, but it is usually backed by high quality goods. The Mountain Dwarves who do not become artisans will often become miners. Regardless of profession, they will take a great deal of pride in their work and strive to be the best there is.

Holding On To Tradition

When Cadros disappeared, it was a Mountain Dwarf that stepped up and claimed to be the God-King in the flesh. He was said to perform acts of divine power, which convinced thousands of other dwarves to flock to Detta in the northwest corner of Atheles and serve under him. While many Mountain Dwarves follow the new King, some have abandoned him and found homes elsewhere. No matter where they ended up, however, all Mountain Dwarves believe strongly in tradition and prayer. Many families perform ceremonies in the Old Way for major life events, like funerals or marriages, hoping that their god will one day return to lead them once more.
