The Isatisian Confederacy

Stronger together

CobaltDM - September 4, 2022
The Isatisian Confederacy is a collection of allied city-states that dominate the continent of Isatis and some surrounding islands.

Demographics

Isatis is home to the most dense population of Elves in Mytkora. They also are home to many Dwarves, Humans, and Halflings. Other less common races include Gnomes (particularly Grass Gnomes), Orcs, Goblins, and Hobgoblins. The states can differ widely from each other in terms of social and economic classes, although the most common castes are similar to the rest of the world. Politicians, aristocrats, merchants, skilled craftsmen, and officers tend to make up the higher classes while unskilled laborers like miners or masons, farmers, and guards make up the lower.

Government

Being a Confederacy, Isatis is broken into many small states (oftentimes these states are city-states) that have their own power and influence as independent entities. The conglomerate sends representatives that meet in the neutral "capital" city of O'thessalia to discuss matters that affect the Confederacy as a whole. The alliance itself is rather weak, however, and border disputes have been known to erupt at a frequent rate. The disappearance of Cadros and subsequent collapse of his kingdom's reach has only served to accelerate these conflicts, further weakening the central government's reach.

Defences

Each state within the Confederacy has its own standing army. The size and capabilities of these armies can vary based on the wealth of the state they represent, though few can be considered weak in comparison to the others. In times of international conflict, the central government holds the power to conscript up to a quarter of each state's army to act in the interest of the alliance as a whole. The Confederacy also has access to a powerful navy made of many small, fast ships called schooners that are outfitted with powerful black-powder cannons.   Additionally, many states have built sea walls and fortresses, primarily along the northern edge of the continent. More are in development, but the Confederacy is considered a powerful force to be reckoned with... assuming all the states can cooperate enough to organize.

Industry & Trade

Isatis is rich in timber, notably the sturdy Ironwood and the flexible, versatile Gorwe. These two trees in particular are highly sought after in Mytkora and have led to many successful logging companies. Additionally, the odd spires that have begun cropping up since the Silence have yielded a strange, durable mineral the locals have named Ghostrock. Armor and weapons made from Ghostrock are being distributed to warriors across Mytkora. Finally, Isatis is the only known place where Adamantium can be mined.

History

Isatis was the first continent settled by mortalkind after the Great Formation. Beginning with Elves, and then Humans and Halflings, the land was soon crawling with mortals. They lived together in villages and oceanside towns before branching off and forming their own grand cities. The first city ever built, O'thessalia, lies in the heart of Isatis. As more races were created and the other landmasses became populated, Isatis remained steadfast in their adoration of the Eleven. So powerful was their devotion that many of the gods spent years walking alongside their people.   As time went on, alliances were formed between cities. The Confederacy was born and a system of government was adopted. O'thessalia was named the capital city, and to this day acts as a place of rich cultural and historical significance. They were not quick enough to defend themselves, however, as Cadros began his conquest of Isatis not long after the Confederacy's formation. Much of the western cities were conquered. The city of Orr was established by Cadros himself to mark the eastern border of his successful campaign. These borders remained in place for hundreds of years. Then, the Silence came.   The Silence rocked the Confederacy. The heart and soul of the nation, its faith, was shattered. There were years of anarchy, but eventually a sense of normalcy returned. The world kept spinning. The Confederacy saw that Cadros' kingdom was falling apart, and united under a new purpose: to reclaim their previous territory. Their reclamation was swift and mostly uncontested as cities failed to mount any sort of defense against the united Confederate armies. Control was reestablished over the entire continent.   Thirty years later, the landscape began rapidly, inexplicably changing. Massive spires began rocketing out of the ground overnight. Forests began spreading at an alarming rate. Sinkholes, bogs, lakes, rivers, and even the ocean itself began reclaiming the continent as if reverting it back to its original state. Fearing retaliation from the gods, high-ranking members of Isatisian society began calling for sacrifices and increased prayer in hopes that their divine leaders would return. Now, neglect of daily rituals or weekly visits to the temples in some cities is seen as reckless, or even a crime.
